I took a shower about an hour ago. I bought myself some really nice soap. My skin smells so good. It is super expensive soap, but if it makes me shower, it is worth it

Need to shower tonight to make a couple of outings tomorrow. I think I can do it.

Came back to say I did it!

I showered today, while the kids were napping. First time in, well, EVER that I can remember thinking I need to shower and just going and doing it without it being some big ordeal, or forgetting, or something else, and a week or two later realizing I STILL haven't showered. Kinda proud of myself for that.

A victory is a victory, no matter how small. Congrats BlueInanna!
Hang on there, being excited about something however small does not mean you are not suffering from depression. As we all know depression is not just sadness.

For the last two weeks I've had one every second day

Yes, it is a victory, for me

Just got out of the shower finally and it felt great. It's really really hard, and I agree - pat yourself on the back for every little thing you push yourself to do. Have yet to do the dishes for the day, but I'll get to it eventually.

Need to get one as am hosting a very small dinner tonight. If I do it, I can also go to church in the morning without a big deal. I just HAVE to do it, really have no choice.

I don't know why showering is so difficult either. It actually feels good once you get in there, and it feels good emotionally after you are finished. But getting up the motivation to go do it is the problem. I think for me, I am very physically unfit due to lying around so much and my muscles really feel like I am having a tough workout when I have to stand so long and keep my arms over my head so much.

I've often wondered that too.

Air toxins, food...?

I showered last night & finally changed my self talk! Instead of "get in the f'ing shower you stupid loser B", I changed it to "this is good, sorry I haven't been better about my self care, this is good to be under warm running water that heals my energy."
Hopefully I can retrain my brain & make it a better habit

In contrast to your not wanting to take a shower, I really desire to have a warm shower. But it's chilly in the winter now and in the neighborhood there is no public bath room having warm water flowing out of the faucet. I live in the home I grew up and now there is no Father to maintain the house so almost every facility at the house is broken, dirty or too broken to be cleaned. Mother is a miser who can rarely see my pain but just wants to keep all her money no matter what happens as long as herself can still eat. (So Standup2me, for me it's better to refer to as Earth Father because I can't believe Mother would serve me anything I need.) That the stove is broken is ok because I can just go to eatery to eat. That the dining table is cluttered with garbage-like things is ok because I could just go to the convenience store to use the dining table there. That there is no functional chair or sofa is ok because I could just go out to sit in public chairs on the roadside. That the TV is broken is ok because I could just watch video on the internet. That the toilet can't flush and would get blocked after defecating is ok because I could just go out to use the public toilet. Only that there is no warm bath facility is not ok because public bath rooms are not easy to find and not many people sell bath service purely. If you want to take a bath outside easily, there are only hotels in the neighborhood and the smallest quantity you need order a hotel is one night, which is very expensive for taking a shower.

I have encountered many difficulties in taking a warm bath outside. I went back to my alma mater graduate school dorm to take a shower but was treated as an intruder and the police officer came to knock the door ferociously when I was taking a shower; that's horrible. I went to my classmate's male friend's dorm to take a shower but it turns out that man is an obscene man. I went to my research institute's public bath room to take a shower but had an fierce quarrel with the janitor then the department head changed my office to another floor where the workplace was often too noisy to work.

Quag, I want to reach out and make the pain go away, but I can't.

I wish that I had something, to offer you, other than hugs and thoughts of peace

I am even thinking of making a to do list to stay on track with my hygiene. I can't believe I even wrote that...I remember 10 years ago when I used to wash my hair and blow dry it every day, brush my teeth every day and even wear make up everyday... I miss the old me.

I feel the exact same way. Miss the old me. I was so much more functional ten years ago than I am today. sigh. It is a struggle to get out of bed every day.
