This is silly small success, but honestly this was not easy for me. I wanted to sleep all day. I only went from my pajamas to my robe, but at least I did take a shower!

Not silly, not small! I had to BRIBE myself Saturday to take one, by dyeing my hair! (Took one Monday, for T!)

I don't really understand why everyone hates taking showers so much-my shower is the highlight of my day! I could spend hours in there, daydreaming, with the warm water trickling down my back... haha. I could understand how it might be difficult to summon the energy to shower if you were depressed, but if you have the energy to buy hair dye, get excited about dying your hair, etc., then I'm guessing that you're not depressed?

A victory is a victory, no matter how small. Congrats BlueInanna!

I bought the hair dye at least a month ago. The complete conversation was posted in another thread, but T said today it's like my mother's voice always contradicting me and anything I want to do, telling me to be quiet so she can sleep for work, get out of the bathroom so she can get ready for work, on and on. It's always getting knocked down.

Haha - good point. I hate showers and love them. Hate them because it takes time i don't have and I don't like the hassle of drying off in my freezing apartment. Love standing under hot water though. My hot water only last about 6 minutes because i put it on scalding hot (my bf can get 12 minutes)

hmmmmm.... contemplating hopping in now.

Lol, I hate them and love them (showers) too! I love water any form i can get it, baths and hot tubs are the best. I know it's good for me physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually. But sometimes, i just cant even wrap my head around everything i have to do, and everything seems so overwhelming. We'll take our victories where we can get them

I tend to enjoy showers when I am in them. I do think that hot running water is the best invention ever... well tied with electricity. When I am distressed or depressed, I don't tend to want to shower though. It seems like too much.

Some days getting out of bed is a major achievement... I remember those days... glad they are gone.

When depressed, taking a shower is a huge accomplishment!! Good for you!! I brushed my teeth yesterday and took a bath today...I am so proud of myself and I am even thinking of making a to do list to stay on track with my hygiene. I can't believe I even wrote that...I remember 10 years ago when I used to wash my hair and blow dry it every day, brush my teeth every day and even wear make up everyday... I miss the old me. Trying not to dwell on the state I am in. I'm trying to do what I can instead of resorting to stay in bed all day. It is a struggle though.

I understand completely about not wanting to take showers. I have a huge problem with this myself. In the past month or so, I've brought myself to instead of taking 1 shower a week, I am up to 2 showers a week! Poeple just tell us, oh just do it... like its that easy... easy for them maybe, but if you struggle with something its not gonna be easy. Proud of you for taking the shower!!!!!!!

I used to love showers. Now my shower is rubbish - a tiny trickle of warm-ish water. You basically get cold standing under it. Impossible to wash your hair in it. Drying yourself - which is exceptionally annoying - is actually easier because there's not much water to start with.

Teeth-brushing - also super-annoying.

And up there at the top for me as well is drying my hair. And like you, ExpressiveOne, I used to do it every day. I'm not even depressed now, I just hate doing it.

What do I like? Ironing. Doing the dishes.

Reading this sequence of events, as if they would take place one right after the other, I was like, whaaa? Who does that?! Thought, impulse, action, action, action, completed? Where's the time for: I shouldn't spend the money, I have to take the bus (to buy dye), do I have too much product on my hair to do it now? Should I do it myself or get it done at the beauty school? It never comes out right. Should I go light or dark? That French IMF woman is natural, she looks great. Should I do streaks? What if I develop an allergy? What if I stain the shower curtain? How long is it gonna take? When is next holiday? When am I gonna see my friends next, will I have roots, should I wait a couple of weeks?

Do I need more medication, or what? ECT maybe?

Pale cool blonde.

Ahem. I would do that. Typical impulsive behavior for me.

Although I would forget what I was doing and start three other projects in the middle of doing that first thing. I do usually finish what I start, thanks to many years of self-inflicted brute force training and excessive anxiety about my dilettantishness. But when I get carried away with impulsivity, I don't think anything through.

Edit: With respect to impulsivity, I mean the hair dye thing, not the showering thing. I can "just do" a lot of stuff on autopilot.

The difference in our models is not just the order... For me, it would be more like: impulse, action, action, impulse, action, impulse, action, action, action, completed, action, action, completed, thought. With that last part optional.

Though when I'm depressed, I'm kind of the opposite of impulsive and I overthink everything and therefore do almost nothing. So. I guess you can have it both ways.

I understand that showers are wonderful, but i understand how hard it can be to gather up the strength to go and take one-- and I don't about anyone else, but at times taking a shower has made me feel like i look worse, or it took too much energy-- But On a normal day- yeah would agree a shower is wonderful for relaxing.. It is hard to explain

But I think you rock for posting this- and go you!!! It can be a struggle some times, but you did it

Good thoughts your way/!

I'm been spoiled, shower-wise. If the water didn't get hot and stay hot, I wouldn't enjoy showering nearly as much. Awesome that you like ironing and washing dishes; I hate those things. I also hate vacuuming; haven't vacuumed in months! But, of course, that will be remedied today. Or maybe tomorrow or the day after.

I'm actually really inhibited as well. When I listed buying the dye->having differently colored hair, I was actually trying to express how I assume everyone else goes about her business!

I've only dyed my hair once, and that time I did buy the dye and complete the action on the same night. Pink stripes. Unfortunately, the dye was designed to wash out within a few days, so it wasn't too big of a risk. I wasn't quite hypomanic then, but I was quite close to it; that is how I am explaining the uncharacteristic impulsivity. I stayed up all night to dye my hair, wash my sheets, and put candy canes on my neighbors' doors. I even talked for over an hour with the custodian who was wiping down the laundry room! Definitely one of my best nights in modern times.

I'm sure that your pale cool blonde hair looks really hawt. What is your natural color?

speaking of dying hair.... I am pretty dark now. I had enough restraint to buy an non pernament color (i bought a henna/indigo mixture yesterday... bought non-pernament version of it today... will see how i like the color on myself. natural dyes are great that they take time to build up so it is not much of shocker. Still.... for somebody how has been a red for almost a decade, it is quite a big change)

red

cherry black

Venus, it's not horrible! It's really nice!! I do love the red too tho.

I've been dying my hair since I was 14. I seriously wish I could stop. Or decolouring actually. But I can't handle the grow out period. Looking like hell for months. I need to get up the energy to do it now in fact. I'm quite sick of blonde but blonde is the only thing that suits my skin. Any other colour and people ask if I'm feeling sick.

venus, both are awesome!

brunette, I started going gray in my late 20's, to where I am like the french IMF lady now. I never looked like my driver's license. now that I get an annual bus pass with a photo, I never look like that, either. in 2011, I went from IMF grey bob (no dye) to black to red to brown to grey (super short) and now blond spikey.

I like playing beauty shop!
