I was diagnosed Bipolar 30 years ago. I managed to complete 2 degrees with honors. Was in 3 national and 1 international honor societies. Worked for 25 years as a counselor , program specialist, behavior specialist, etc. I was just determined to be 100% disabled by the military and social security 10 years ago. And was a stay at home dad and worked for free on my in-laws horse farm . I am doing great now and compensated twice what I made working but still hope to work again one day.

Hi USMCBIPOLAR7
Firstly, well done on accomplishing such huge achievements! I am am undergrad and one day hope to complete further studies and work as a behavior specialist so your post here has given me hope! I have recently been diagnosed with bipolar and feel as though a large amount of my achievements were due to increased productivity during hypomanias - much of these accomplishments were torn down by what I now recognise as undiagnosed episodes, or long term goals were put on long holds until depression periods went away again. Since my diagnosis I feel as though my little internal world has spiraled down, with lots of what if's and questioning of my future goals. Reading your story here has been uplifting and a little glimpse of hope that my treatment of this disorder will support me to live a sustainable life, rather than bursts of intense euphoria and productivity. |
