This a weird AP that is kind of a cross between a typical AP and an AAP. It has a weird function where it metabolizes into amoxapine, which is a tricylic AD. So there's a little extra AP boost.

I liked it and found it free of side effects for the first 2 dose increases. I was just starting to think the next increase might be the winner when I realized that my whole body hurt and my muscles were tight.

I also started tongue thrusting and lip smacking. So the loxapine started to be tapered.

I started it while tapering off Seroquel. In hindsight I probably should have done that IP to go faster. I wound up IP and way because I went back into my mixed episode rapidly when the loxapine was stopped and my Seroquel was at about 25% of normal and I started feeling suicidal. They got me off it and back on Seroquel and I think on another drug and I was much better 6 days later when I went home.

Summary: Good drug, probably not good for use with Seroquel even when just tapering the Seroquel.

I don't know why it isn't used more. Maybe dystonia is more common than I thought when I took it? I thought it wasn't that common and I was just more at risk because I have a history of dystonia on several APs.

I haven't tried amoxapine but I think it may be a decent med based on having the metabolite in my blood while taking loxapine. My depression improved some on just a low dose and my Seroquel dose was being lowered at the same time so it must have had some effect.

There was someone else on here a long time ago who swore by Loxapine. I haven't seen anyone else say they've tried it.
