I am wondering if anyone taking Lamictal notices if it causes brain fog. I increased my dose to 100 mg today and have felt foggy all afternoon/evening. I took it at 8 am so I wonder if the fog could instead be caused by Lamictal wearing off in the afternoon? I'm confused b/c when I'm depressed I have brain fog. My head felt clearer on a higher dose of my antidepressant so my doctor told me to increase it again. I really don't want to take anything that makes me foggy. What have your experiences been with this?

Hi Amy3boys. I have been taking just 100 mg of Lamictal for about 7 years now. No brain fog that I'm aware of. I don't think I've ever had any brain fog on this dose, but it's possible you just need to adjust to the new dose. I did experience some cognitive dulling at doses of 200 and 300 mg further back in the past. If the brain fog does have anything to do with depression, maybe with a little time that will ease, too. All the best!

I was a mental mess when I was first put on Lamictal so cognitive issues were huge but I got to 150mg daily and we decided to sit there for a while. I think a year or 2 later I needed an increase and I remember feeling “ off” for a couple weeks, struggled to find words and spell them. I’m assuming it was my body adjusted to the increase. After a few weeks I felt fine again
Hope your feeling better soon __________________ Helping others gets me out of my own head ~ |

I used to have that feeling when I was on it. My pdoc suggested I take it at night instead.
It worked really well because I slept through the foggy part and didn't feel any effects during the day afterwards. __________________ * Dx: Unspecified Bipolar and Related Disorder * Rx: Remeron, Prozac, Klonopin, Vraylar My avatar picture is a photo of the Whirlpool Galaxy I took in April 2023. Once I settled into my 400 mg/day place, I had no sort of fog issues that I recall.

I had that sensation for the first 2 months. I didn't want to stay on it. But the brain fog went away. I'm actually very pleased with Lamictal. I mean, if I have to be on a med, Lamictal would be one I'd choose.

Thanks! Now the fog seems to be going away but Lamictal is giving me insomnia. Did it ever cause this for you and if it did, was it just temporary?

Lamictal gave me insomnia also. This went away when I started taking it in the morning.
