I’m on metformin 1000mg two times daily to help with weight loss due to antipsychotics. We tried it for a couple months and I didn’t notice any weight loss so we finally successfully tapered down on the antipsychotic and up on an antiepileptic and wow! The weight is shedding off! The Dr is keeping me on the metformin until I reach my goal weight in case it is helping too. Best of luck to you!!

I took it for almost 6 months. 1000mg a day. Did I lose weight ? Yes I can’t weight myself as thats a huge trigger for my ED but I was wearing my much smaller clothes.

I had diarrhea every single day. We dropped to 500mg a day and it was still an issue. Chronic diarrhea is very unhealthy for our bodies.

So I had to quit it.

Im sorry it didn’t work out for you

I'm so sorry, Birdie. You gave it a good try, though, and you deserve a big for the attempt at becoming more healthy - and also for getting in there and doing your own research.

I was practically begging my GP for Metformin to try to drop even a little bit of the massive amount of weight I've gained on Seroquel. Well, she took my AC1 and it came out 6, so she finally agreed to prescribe Metformin. I'm nervous about the diarrhea issue, but I'd put up with a lot right now, I'm so desperate to drop weight. I've gained 147lbs on Seroquel (I started at 110lbs). Major metabolic syndrome.

x fingers crossed x

BethRags, I've been on the XR for years and never seemed to have a problem with diarrhea. I mean, I'm talking a lot on here about diarrhea now but I don't think it's the metformin after so many years and my doctors don't seem to think it's that either. So I'm going with diarrhea free on Metformin. I do think the XR version is important and it is generic so cheap.I'm not sure why anyone prescribes the regular release anymore.

So far, I feel like my life has changed for the better! My appetite is normal for the first time in a decade. I feel better in general. I cannot understand why no doctor prescribed Metformin to me before I gained 147lbs. on Antipsychotics!

Beth, I am happy to read that Metformin seems to hold great promise for you. May it continue to serve you well with few or no side effects!
