hi. me, again.

I'm going to try coenzyme q10 for overall mood brightening (small studies say 200-500mgs+/- can slowly lift mood in the depressed...) and to help with the nastiness caused by the Rx drugs (necessary, but kinda...not so great for the body...) and aging (mid-30s), and the underlying 'affliction' (-some- speculate that bipolar i, sza, etc. are caused in part by out of bonds oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, etc...).

pros: even a reputable brand was not $$$, at a low/mid-dosage.

cons: I don't know much about coenzyme q10. lol. I ordered a bottle of alpha lipoic acid, because apparently the ALA is a potent antioxidant, in its own right...

and it recycles coenzyme q10. so, I'm hoping to spend a lil $ on that, get more bang for my buck, overall. something like that, anyway.

oh...and, coenzyme q10 has been mentioned in some research/reviews as possibly, maybe helping with whatever make many of us gain lots on the Rx drugs. I doubt it'd be sufficient to help if I was on, say...zyprexa or clozapine...but on Abilify, with all my other stuff on board...

maybe? I don't think it could hurt, at any rate. do any of you have experiences?

Hi there!
Nice to see you, as always!

I had started using CoQ10 in the 1980s. During that time, it was sourced from Japan only. It was difficult to obtain and was quite expensive. I had used it off and on over the years. Sometimes I become more organized with my supplement regimen. I had first started using this as a "super antioxidant" under the direction of an Orthomolecular Medicine M.D. When I had started to use COQ10, there was only one formulation, it was made in Japan. It was also called: ubiquinone. In time, companies in the U.S, had started to manufacture COQ10. A more bioavailable formulation is also available, called ubiquinol.

Over the past 15 years or so, I have used Jarrow's COQ10.

I do favor the Jarrow brand of CoQ10. The reasons why?
Jarrow provides pure pharmaceutical grade supplements at reasonable prices and is often offering "cutting edge" supplements.

Their COQ10 is Pharmaceutical Grade "Kaneka Q10." which has been proven to be superior in bioavailability.
Studies have been done on the Jarrow COQ10 formulas, as well as on the Pharmaceutical Grade Kaneka COQ10 utilized in all Jarrow COQ10 formulas.

Jarrow offers both the ubiquinone and ubiquinol formulations. Additionally, Jarrow has enhanced these formulations.

Here is a wealth of info on various forms of COQ10 formulations:
Jarrow Formulas : Co-Q10
Please just click on any formula and you will learn more about that specific formulation. You may also notice links to research studies in certain formulations.
Don't be afraid to explore the Jarrow site.

I have quickly added this from memory, in hopes of supporting still_crazy's efforts/thread on this very interesting supplement.
I might return to add more info. once I have time to jog my memory.

thanks so much. OK...

so, on top of the usual, ongoing routine...200mgs "high absorption" coenzyme q10 (doctor's best), 600mgs alpha lipoic acid (before or well after meals...). I also recently added 10mgs/melatonin at night, more for TD protection (don't have TD, don't want TD) than anything else. This brand includes some B6, which is nice of them.

I'm hoping to get a bit of an energy+focus boost. not so much stimulation as just...a less scattered version of me.

Jarrow is a good company, btw. if I'd really thought it thru, I would have bought one of their (many) versions of CoQ10. I vaguely remember being impressed by their NAC Sustain. Oh, and I remember using their skin stuff and hair stuff for a while and it was good, too (I use supplements with verisol now...I respond better to it).
