I have noticed that almost all my AP related weight gain is around my middle. I’ve gone from being an hourglass figured person to being a round apple shaped person.
Has anyone else noticed that their weight gain has predominantly gone onto their abdomen? __________________ Pookyl ———————————————————————————— BP1, GAD, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Claustrophobia Psych meds: Saphris, Seroquel XR, regular Seroquel. PRN Diazepam and Zopiclone |

Yes. Carrying extra weight around the middle is part of what is known as "metabolic syndrome". Metabolic syndrome can be caused by AP's.

I don't see it in my case. I definitely don't have a six pack, but my stomach is not bad at all. I tend to gain my weight throughout my body evenly. Mostly in my life I've wished my butt and thighs were slimmer, but they aren't that bad, either, especially wearing pants or skirts. [Bathing suits, not as much.] I do feel my breasts and the size around my chest area has grown a lot. I was fairly small there even 14 years ago just 7 lbs less than I am now. I was a 34B then. Now 36C sometimes is tight and uncomfortable. I do attribute my time on Risperdal and Invega for some of that change. Many women wouldn't be that upset by that, though.
Some bipolar meds were much more weight unfriendly than my current mix. Depakote was terrible for me, but I was also depressed long-term on that. At my highest weight, I was almost 20 lbs more than I am now. Nevertheless, I am about 16 lbs overweight and have high cholesterol, perhaps high triglycerides, and hopefully not prediabetic. During really good times (at Seroquel XR doses of 500 mg or below) I can get down 6 lbs or so, but it's tough to go lower. So often I then get hypomanic/manic and my Seroquel XR dose goes back to 600 mg +. My bloodwork results concern me more than my appearance. I think I look a bit trimmer than most women my height and weight. I'm large-boned and quite strong. I think the strength is residual from my dancing days. I never had any children. Maybe that plays a part in my situation, too. Last edited by Anonymous46341; Dec 20, 2019 at 02:18 PM.. |

I also have gained a belly, though I’ve gained all over.

I think my weight gain is more due to age and food choices than meds. But I was always a pear, bigger in the hips, but, and thighs than in the upper body. Only in the past few years have I grown a belly.
