I took Lamictal for almost four months. I am so frustrated b/c it lifted my depression and improved my energy level but gave me a sore throat and flu-like symptoms. I was stubborn; since it helped my mental health I kept waiting for the unpleasant physical side effects to go away. They did not go away so now I've tapered off of Lamictal and my mood and energy level have sunk. I do take Geodon and an antidepressant but I guess they're not nearly as effective as the Lamictal was. I can't take a very high dose of Geodon b/c I developed akathisia at a higher dose. Anyway, my doctor prescribed Trileptal to replace the Lamictal. I haven't taken it yet. From what I've read it doesn't seem to be as good for depression as Lamictal is. Has anyone had success with Trileptal? I'm waiting to talk to my doctor later today b/c I'm not sure how many times a day she wants me to take it. I also want to ask if there are other options b/c I'm feeling doubtful about Trileptal. I miss how good I felt on Lamictal

I take 1200 mg of Trileptal, have been on it for years. It's been really effective for getting rid of my manic episodes, though the first couple months on it were rough cause I was always tired but that eventually went away. I was switched from Depakote to it because it doesn't have weight gain risks

Thanks! Depression and fatigue are my biggest problems, which the Lamictal was helping. I hope this helps too. I really hope it doesn't just make me more tired.

hey. i took 1200/trileptal till it made my depression worse. maybe something...that isn't a "mood stabilizer" ? aside from lamictal, most are used for mania, hypomania, and then in the behavioral areas for anger, aggression, ODD kids and teens, blah blah blah.

ask about getting your blood sodium levels checked...I think its recommended at baseline, then in 8 or 12 weeks or...something.
