I thought it was good as an antipsychotic. The only issue I had with it was elevated prolactin, though not everyone gets that from Risperdal. My case was beyond just missing periods. I began to lactate. I've never been or will be a mother, so that was very abnormal for me. I had to wear pantyliners in my bra. As for weight gain, it wasn't bad for me. I may have gained a few pounds, but not much more.

Between Risperdal and its related "cousin" medication Invega, my bra size increased. I had been a smaller bra size at a heavier weight before those two medications. I think that potential side effect is far less problematic for females than it would be for any unlucky male that developed related issues. In my case, the increased size was welcome.

I'm not happy with it, but at least I don't get any side effects.

Is Risperdal the cheapest? I thought Seroquel XR was because I was getting a 200mg dose for $3, and it was the brand name, not generic. See here: SEROQUEL XR(R) (quetiapine fumarate) Coupon and Savings

I have no experience with Risperdal. Just pointing out that Seroquel XR is very cheap if you're willing to consider it. I did not have a good reaction to Seroquel XR, but some people here really like it.

I really liked it and it worked at a low dose for me but it increased my blood pressure beyond the safe zone and I had to stop. I liked it so much we tried two more times with the same reaction so I had to stop and I can't take Invega either. That's not a common reaction though, just the one that made me have to stop. I'm still sad about that.

PS I have no idea what the cheapest is. It probably varies plan to plan

It’s very good...strongest of the atypicals with regard to d2 binding...but it’s got weight gain and breast growth as side effects so it might not be sustainable.....

I have tried Risperdal only once, when it was first on the market. It caused me to lactate, too....and I was at least 5 years past breastfeeding my youngest child. Creepy. I've never taken it again.
