Hi bpcyclist. It wasn't a result of tapering down, but I can say that about 12 years ago when I was put on the combination of 300 mg Lamictal and some amount of Abilify that I gradually became more and more manic until I was extremely severely manic with psychosis. I recall having terribly dysfunctional thinking at the end and ended up in the psych hospital. I believe it was #6 or 7 of 10. Also, I believe it was at that time that I was rehospitalized only 24 or 48 hours after being released to PHP. Actually, the whole period is very fuzzy in my memory.

Not from tapering, but I had strong akathesia from Abilify. Not a good med for me.

That is awful, BirdDancer. So sorry you had to go through all that. Seems like this medication can be activating in some of us...

Yup. After having stopped my meds for a few months a few years ago, for whatever reason, I think they'd just stopped working and so I stopped taking them... Anyway, I decided to go back on during a depressive ep. Going back on Abilify my pdoc wanted to go back on slowly. So she stated me at 5mg. Given lower doses of Abilify tend to be "activating" (and certainly because I was also on a 20mg nicotine patch at the time) I shot straight out of the depression. But when pdoc heard what happened -- and how good I was feeling -- she jacked the Abilify up and brought the nicotine patch down I can easily see how going from 25 to 10 that fast would screw with things and cause hypo/manic upswing. Are you feeling okay, or is it one of those dysphoric types?

Thanks very much for that information.

Yeah, it was all, 100% just classic, euphoric hypo, which, honestly, I seldom get any more. Almost never. Now, a few days later, back down and feeling pretty good. I am just quite labile right now, as we work through these med changes. Just have to be patient.

When I am off Abilify, I become psychotic/manic. It has recurred 7 times with me. The best method is to stay on Abilify and remain stable.

I get incredibly irritable tapering abilify, had to do it 2.5mg at a time over the course of a year.

That is just awful. I hope you never have to go through that again.

Yeah, we are reducing it because I am on Trilafon now, and 25 of Abilify is too much with that second AP. Doing much better today.
