I increased my dosage of Lamictal a month ago, and now I am a tub of lard. None of my pants fit me, my shirts are all too tight, I feel so uncomfortable all the time. I haven't changed my diet or exercise in the past month, so I don't think it's that. Has anyone else gained weight on Lamictal?? HELP!!

Hmm. I though lamictal was supposed to be pretty weight neutral. I don't know. I had more problems with weight with my AD's.

I took Lamictal for a number of months (had to stop due to that nasty rash thing) and didn't gain any weight from it. It was my understanding that it is considered weight-neutral but I could be wrong.
I had a had a problem gaining some weight after a really difficult bout of depression earlier this year so I begged my pdoc to try adding some Topamax to my Depakote. We cut me down to 1000mg Depakote and added 100mg Topamax and I started losing weight, about 1lb every 10 days. Since Topamax has a cognitive dulling effect, we didn't want to overdo it so the 100mg seemed to be the threshhold where the weight loss began. I never gained any weight on Lamictal. __________________ Vickie |

I echo the others... Lamictal is weight-neutral. I was on 200mg for over a year and had absolutely no weight gain from it. Are you taking other meds? Zyprexa and the other atypical antipsychotics cause weight gain. Just a thought.

I've been on Lamictal for 9 years and I never saw it affect my weight.

You mentioned that you haven't changed your diet or exercise plan. Everyone adjusts to medication differently and its possible that while Lamictal isn't the primary cause of you gaining weight, its still a factor. Winter is always a hard time to watch weight and diet but maybe a closer look at your diet and increase in exercise will do you good.

Ah... winter weight. I have that, as well as some weight gain from quitting smoking. At least I stopped eating like I was starving a few weeks ago. Now I just need to figure out how to LOSE this weight.

I too have been putting on a couple of pounds, but unfortunately I can't blame it on much except my bad habit of making and eating fudge and cookies this time of year.

Oh, I am on 37mg effexor and it has made me shoot up! I was told with effexor it is not dose related, ie, with some people the wieght gain is all at the lower doses and not at the higher ones. The lithium is also a problem but it IS more dosage trelated. GRRRRR. I hate this too. Unfortunately I can't help you out much with lactimal... Huggs anyway.
