My first full blown manic/psychotic breakdown with 1st dx was from a hormonal birth control shot.
Then after that I took myself off all meds and was manic but somehow got put on paxil which led to psychosis.
then while in a skin picking mood was put on prozac when I said no that I wanted something for OCD instead. pdoc just said prozac would work great and then I went manic with some psychosis, delusional thoughts and paranoia.
lately I was put on trazadone and had some manic behavior from that.
I can't take antidepressants!

I was recently told by my pdoc that Trazadone can cause mania, so she won't put me on it. I find it interesting though that it still seems to be prescribed to people who have Bipolar, but I'm guessing it only causes mania in some of us? And it probably isn't as likely to induce mania compared to the SSRI's like prozac and zoloft? Not sure, but I can't take antidepressants either! It seems it's hard to treat depression in those of us with bipolar when it comes to medication choices. When I'm depressed without any mixed mania, I feel it's hard to find anything that works. Even Lamictal doesn't seem to do much for the depression, although it does prevent me from crying as much. I wish I can find something that worked better for the depression without going manic or hypomanic on meds that set it off.
