no experience with it, personally. just try to keep the dosage low. interestingly enough...low to moderate doses of thorazine probably don't cause TD any more often than most 'atypicals.' lower potency tranquilizers aren't as bad as, say, high dose Haldol. on the downside...thorazine has a reputation for causing low mood and straight up depression. that's probably dosage related, too. for a long time, 600mgs was standard for everybody, and lots of people were on even more (as outpatients...), so...the dosage was probably part of what led to the bad reputation.
good luck. |

Out of all the plentiful and different types of meds that can be used for their tranquilizing effect, the doctor chose Thorazine? This boggles my mind. I would just keep the dosage as low as possible.

I was first given 50-100 mg dose while IP when NOTHING else worked .... AP or high dose sleep meds were useless. Since I only taken them rarely there is really no reason to worry about any side effects, hell my Latuda has more potential side effects LOL I have also taken haldol in the past , sure there are risks but nothing worse than other meds. Old school meds are at least very well studied unlike the new ones being churned out. It really just depends on finding whatever works. __________________ Helping others gets me out of my own head ~ |

before it was labeled as an "antipsychotic," Thorazine was used in low doses in pre-operative sedation cocktails (using thorazine meant lower doses of barbiturates, which decreased the risks of surgery considerably...it also reduces nausea, so that's a big plus), and it was also used as a night time sedative.
based on its effects in non-psych indications, doctors in France started using it here and there in psych patients in hospitals...then they did more in-depth studies...and then Thorazine became the 1st popular, widely available major tranquilizer/antipsychotic. it is worth noting that resperine and raowulfia alkaloids (probably not spelled right) were around then, too. those are from an Indian plant long used to soothe the distressed. thorazine was far more profitable. |

Like Christina almost all other options have been tried. 200mgs of Seroquel doesn't even cause me to nap.

Glad it helped with your sleep, that is so important for the wellbeing and our health.
I am pretty sedated atm, and will fall asleep within short time. (I’m on 400mg Seroquel, works fine for me) Feeling the eyelids getting heavier and every thought vanishing in a blissful moment of inner peace- I just love it. All I can think is how wonderful it is getting enough sleep every night. Waking up rested and ready to start a new day, oh my, what a joy Wish you all the best, and hope you get some wonderful nights of peaceful sleep |

[one 5mg Ambien is $5 on the street, used my tweaker to get off the high, and sleep, they take 15-25 mg which is way too much] Many tranquilizer type drugs can be habit-forming and Thorazine is not. __________________ Cyclothiamia - on Depakote with occasional Thorazine for severe insomnia. |

I took it for psychosis. Not a drug I need now. But it helped with sleep.
