So I have 2 phone interviews this week. I also have to write a rebuttal to my written warning and see the EEO guy tomorrow. I was looking for support from my wife but that is always a bad idea. It is either like talking to a wall or she takes their side and doesn’t believe me. She thinks I am exaggerating the abuse I take at work. I am depressed and am having trouble sleeping. I have work stress and job hunting stress. I need support other than my T.

Crook32, I'm sorry you're having to deal with all that and for not having the support you need at home. We're here for you, and we care.

I'm sorry you can't get the support you need from your wife. Do you have friends in real life that you can talk to? If you need to talk on chat, I am often available.

Good luck with your interviews.

I also don't always get the support I need from my wife. Hang in there everything will work out for the best. I wish you luck on your interviews.

This will probably sound ridiculous to you, but I think you are handling all of this extremely well. I have wondered how I would respond if I was in your situation, and I am pretty sure I would have brought everything down in a cursing fiery rage. I am continually impressed by how calmly you seem to respond to all the bs you’ve had to deal with.

How are you going to take care of yourself if you jump into another job? Is there any possibility of a temporary break or disability?

I am scared to death to change jobs. I fear change. Plus my whole adult life has been at this one business so my life is centered around it - drs and T. I am afraid if I get one of these other jobs I will have to change my T because she will be too far away. I know legally they would have to give me an accommodation for therapy but it might not be practical.

2.5 hours until the interview. I have been at work all day but have nothing to charge to so I will have to use vacation time. My rebuttal is done I just need to send it up the chain. So I know there is one more step before being fired and that is my 30 day warning. I am so conflicted. I want to both stay and go. All of this started when I got back from the hospital. It is too much of a coincidence not to be related to my mental illness and short term disability.

I think I am having a midlife crisis.

Good luck with your job search!

Speaking as someone who has had many, many jobs including one I was fired from--in many states you do not get unemployment if you are fired for cause but you do get it when you are released from a temporary assignment. So if you "leave" before you are officially fired--it could protect those small benefits (though we still need to find work when we get these benefits because it doesn't last long and leaves you without health insurance) but it is still better than nothing.

Also--it must be harder to work at this job now.

Personally, I just have a collection of temporary and/or part time jobs now. Couldn't handle the stress of some jobs (and didn't get the proper support at the time either).

Take care of yourself! Take deep breaths and all your medications. Some of this is out of your hands. Do what you can but also try to get some rest if possible.

It sounds positive that they want you to take the chemistry test. That sounds like you've made it to step 2, so congratulations and good luck. When is the test?

Said they would call next week to set it up. I am going to have to read Chemistry for Dummies. I haven’t had a chemistry class in 20 years. I was a TA one semester though.

Oooh, phase 2, good sign, Crook! Good luck on the chemistry test. I bet it will comes back to you nearly like riding a bike. Especially as you even did it as a TA!

I'd have to caution against this. Crook's not been on a temporary assignment (as I understand it, it's been long term), and any leaving would be considered "quitting", which wherever I've lived has not been covered by unemployment. Apparently, in rare situations you can finagle around it, but I sure wouldn't want to count on it...

(Lol, hear ya on many many jobs, Nowinners! I've had 40(!) And am currently on the hunt again...)

You can do this, Crook32! Please don't give up. It sounds like you're doing your best and giving it your best shot. I'm sure you'll be able to find a new job sooner or later. Let's hope you'll pass that chemistry test! Remember that you're stronger than you think. I'm so sorry you're not receiving any support from your wife, do you have any friends or family members that can support you IRL? Either way, remember that you'll find support here. Feel free to PM me anytime. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. Sending many hugs to you

Chemistry test is on the 17th. I have a phone interview in 3 hours. I really want this job so I am kind of freaking out. I was up last night from 1:30-3:30. So I am really tired. I hope I don’t blow it.

I think it went well. She is sending it on to the next person. So if she likes me I will get a phone interview with her. This job has some international travel. I have never been out of the country so it makes me a little nervous.
