I'd like to know if others have experienced physical symptoms that coincide with a mood episode. I felt an episode coming on, and a day later had severe stomach pain, a wicked headache and body aches. I don't know if I had a bug or if it was psychosomatic.
I look forward to hearing opinions and experiences. __________________ Dust in the breeze it always comes Blocking out the Sun Up from the Ashes a Phoenix flies https://psychcentralforums.com/creat...er-s-rags.html https://psychcentralforums.com/creat...innocence.html |

When I was 14 I suffered from extreme anxiety and depression. I clearly remember coming home from school every day and having to go straight to bed because I had a severe headache. I don’t have anxiety often anymore but when I do, if I have a panic attack, I end up with a terrible headache afterward. I think it’s totally legit.

Depression give me stomach, intestines, head, and body aches.
Mania causes eye problems with sometimes hallucinations, as well as rapid heartbeat and chest pain. Priopism(sp?) has also been a factor. Hypomania makes everything hurt. Sexual hyper function or other problems are also an issue in any mood state. |

I don't believe I really had any muscle pains, unless maybe I danced for five hours straight, but even then, when very manic, I am not so bothered by pain. I've also been lucky (knock on wood) to have never had significant issues with pain. That doesn't mean I haven't had physical issues during episodes, though. The ones I most often had (some mentioned) are as follows:
* Racing heart (probably adrenaline and/or anxiety related) * Indigestion and heartburn (very common for me, at times). * Phantom pains/weird feelings (not common for me, but I have had times I was a bit of a hypochondriac). For example, "Was I having a heart attack? "Do I have MS/cancer?" All in the anxiety category. * I did have a period of migraines, but predominantly only during a few year period. The head pain was actually less severe than the nausea/vomiting. Nevertheless, sumatriptan (migraine med) worked beautifully. * Nausea occasionally frim various other things, but usually minor and relieved by antacids. * My husband has said that when I'm manic, my eyes open wider, my pupils dilate, and my breath starts to really smell bad. |

I've been in a depressive episode for the past 16 months and when I get into a really low mood I get general body pains.
It hurts to walk, and my back and arms hurt too. I often gauge just how low I am based on my physical symptoms since I sense those sooner than the mood episode itself. __________________ * Dx: Unspecified Bipolar and Related Disorder * Rx: Remeron, Prozac, Klonopin, Vraylar My avatar picture is a photo of the Whirlpool Galaxy I took in April 2023. I thought that was happening the last 2 weeks. Stomach pains, weakness, nausea, constantly dehydrated, ears ringing weirdly, agitated as f**k. Mentally I’ve been very off, so I figured that was causing the physical stuff. I took a blood test at the doctor on Friday, and my lithium level was higher than the appropriate range. That’s never happened to me before. I found out yesterday and decreased my dosage this morning - I’m interested in seeing if all the body stuff goes away. It’s kind of scary how easily I brushed it all off as deriving solely from MH stuff. I’m really lucky they tested and caught that.

No really. However, I do have Fibromyalgia and when I overdo it with hypo/mania I crash badly and my body aches plus a whole host of symptoms. Depression can bare the usual aches and pains too, but not too bad. I have read and been told by professionals that for some people when hypo/manic they experience pain differently. Mostly, not experiencing it all until the dreaded crash. People have been known to run on broken legs with no pain, and no reason to run. Some people, if not caught and treated actually are on the go so much and notice no pain or physical distress they literally die.

I did practice yoga for several weeks with a broken wrist while manic, until the pain overwhelmed me and everything crashed to a crisis level.
