I am feeling really low today. A job I thought was a shoe in has seemed to fall through. Been rejected from 5 other jobs. All the others seem to be taking an eternity to make up their mind. I canceled my internal EEO interview because all it would have done was tell them what I know so they can defend against the external one I am filing. I just wish I knew when they were planning on firing me so I can plan. I had a phone interview but I don’t think I will get the job. Plus it is only part time and I would have to travel. I feel very edgy and agitated and irritable. I could just fall asleep at my desk.

I feel like this is all a waste of time and that I am going to spend tons on a lawyer and not win.

What is an EEO review? Can you share any additional information?

Will your family be okay income-wise if you are out of work for a short time?

I'm sorry you're going through this. Can you apply for unemployment or disability as a last resort?

When I lost my job, I was able to get unemployment for a couple of months. It was not much, but it was something.

We should be ok for a little while. It will depend how much I have to pay the lawyer. How long this drags on. Not sure how this will play out. I know I am right but proving it is so hard.

If you do get fired do you have savings to hold you off until you can find something?

Yeah we will be ok depending on legal fees. The last discrimination case against my employer took 5 years. I can’t last that long. It went to trial. I am hoping we can just settle and be done with it.

No. It was a $3000 retainer and $250/hr. Which is cheaper than the first lawyer I was getting.

I'm so sorry, Crook32 It's good that you have some money saved for you and your family. Please don't give up. Keep looking for a job. I hope you'll be able to find something soon. It could even be something small - anything that could keep you safe for a while while you look for better ones. I'm so sorry you're going through all of this. You don't deserve it at all. Don't give up your search! You seem very smart and resourceful. Be proud of yourself for that. I agree with all the others. Definitely apply for unempoyment if it gets rough. Is there anything we can do to help you? Please let us know. Feel free to PM me anytime. Let me know if I can do something to help you. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this

Should I keep up this fight? It could last years and I don’t know if I have that fight in me. I know that is what they are counting on. But I have a hard time just walking away. Right now we have evidence for discrimination based on disability and gender, retaliation, harassment, and equal pay. But of course there is no guarantee the court would agree. Cases like this are so hard to prove. If I don’t win we will be out thousands of dollars. It is already $3000 and counting.

I'm sorry my friend. I too am in the job searching process and it is tough to say the least.

Only you and your family can decide if it is worth it.

Well....... to be totally blunt, when you first asked about getting a lawyer, the heavy consensus here was that it wasn't worth it. (Expensive, hard to prove, aggravation, etc). But of course it is your decision. You said the last time you did this it took 5 years? I was surprised to see that you've done this before. I don't know if there's any way they would find out, but if I were an employer, that would give me pause.

I still feel your energy is best devoted to finding a new job.

(Hope I didn't come off too harshly, I do wish only the best for you. )

I didn’t do it before. The last time my work was sued the case took 5 years. I have never done this. Getting the lawyer kind of was like a roller coaster ride it just kind of picked up momentum of its own and before I knew it there was an internal investigation (which there would have been on lawyer or not). The lawyer saved me from going through with it though. All it really was was a fact finding mission to see what I knew so they could counter everything. I really want the people punished who tortured me for 2 years but I know that is not realistic. Nothing will happen to them.
