I have been having issues lately with forgetfulness, and other things. If I am to remember a number, even just to copy from a piece of paper onto the computer, I have to read it 5 to 6 times to make sure I have it right. Then I have to go back and re-check afterwards to make sure. This is relatively new.

I have also been having trouble with recognizing people. I've always been bad with names, but very good with remembering faces. I have had some instances recently where I didn't recognize people that I have known for awhile.

I haven't had any recent med changes. I requested a Lithium level from my pdoc which I plan on getting early next week.

Any ideas on what could be causing this, or other's experiences are appreciated.

Huh. I couldn't really say what's causing it, but wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I have generally decent luck with remembering faces, though there have been times when I completely did not recognize someone I knew perfectly well. It's disconcerting to be sure. I can't remember strings of numbers either (and my new job is full of numbers -- it's frustrating). It's an all the time thing for me, but I'd say it's worse when I'm under a lot of stress. Are you having a lot of stress? Or even having something you're preoccupied with lately?

I've always had a hard time with those things too, plus recalling people that were friends...huh what was their name? I looked at my yearbook and couldn't recognize anyone. If you find an answer let me know.

I’ve not been under any stress Beyond my usual level. No med changes recently.

Besides my issue with numbers, I write software for a living, and things don’t seem to come as easily as they did. It’s a bit concerning.

I’ll be getting lithium levels next week, and have an appointment with my doc at the end of the month. I’ll talk with him about it then.

I am terrible at remembering numbers

I used to be really good, too (before diagnoses)

I stand by my theory that as you get older, memory just gets worse. I'm not even 40 and struggle majorly

I'd even say this time last year it was a bit better (but not by much)

I've been trying some of those train your brain exercises on amazon alexa (you're meant to do them daily for best results)

embarrassingly I was asked a really simple question today (I had to remember the first word in a sequence of words), and by the time she'd said the second word, I forgot the first

embarrasing

thankfully I can still remember henry the 8th's wives

when that's gone I know I'm in trouble

(it's my party peace) knowing the year he was married to them, what happened to them, and their names

you know it's funny how stuff just gets lodged in your brain

I don't remember what I had for breakfast today, or what I did yesterday, but I can remember henry the 8th and his wives

about the only thing I did pick up from school

Lithium level came back at .9 so no worries there. I'll have to ask my pdoc later in the month if he has any thoughts on the subject.

I have long bemoaned the shortcomings of my short-term memory, which is like Swiss cheese. (My long-term memory is excellent.) I also have the attention span of a goldfish. I was afraid I was developing dementia, which is not unheard-of at my age (60). But I've had two different pdocs tell me that I'm not, and that all this is due to a combination of meds and brain damage from repeated bipolar episodes, which makes sense. I can't do anything about that, so I deal with my STM loss with as much humor as I can muster.

My short term memory is terrible for things like that. I really can sometimes not remember people I have met before and it is so embarrassing. I also was not always like this, I used to have a decent memory as a kid and was good with faces. It's occurred to me that my brain is often split between paying attention and ruminating/other distractions so maybe partly an attention thing for me.

I saw my pdoc today, and we are lowering my dose of Lithium from 1200mg to 900mg. Based on my memory issues as well as some balance issues I"ve been experiencing, he thought the dose may be too high. I'ts what I suspected as well. I'm to give it a week on the lower dose and get blood drawn again. I hope some of these symptoms will go away.

Since my treatment began 10 years ago my memory has deteriorated. Not sure why as I have had many med changes but ECT certainly caused major problems to my daily memory which still continue today. I’ve had ECT on four occasions and regret it due to memory and the fact that it hardly worked. I was just extremely ill and desperate as nothing else was reliving the mixed episodes.

I don't know if you are on any but benzo's are notorious for short term memory loss. Especially xanax.

I went borderline toxic on lithium and a friend actually on here pointed out I was misspelling everything and it was jumbled.

I was lucky i didn’t have permanent kidney damage.

That's really scary re: kidney damage. My level was .9 so I wasn't near toxic, but the symptoms have gotten worse; to the point where I needed to talk with my pdoc about it. He said what I was experiencing could be caused by the Lithium. I'll see how the lower dose works, and get another blood draw next week.

When I was on benzos they really did a number on my head. I had the stove and oven disconnected cause I was always forgetting stuff and didn't want to burn the place down.
