Can anyone tell me how to release this anger. I’m not even actually mad over anything. My day has gone so well. But I have this need to not only verbally fight with someone but to literally kick the crap out of someone. I’m never a fighter and was never the type to resolve conflicts like that. But today it’s a strong need.

Any suggestions?

I've often heard punching a pillow (or even yelling into one) helps release some of that energy. I'm sorry to hear you are feeling like that. You may also want to try exercise, or running.

I did run this morning. It only made it worse.

Well... anger is something I've dealt with for many years. And often, like you, it wasn't really directed at anyone or anything in particular. I was just pissed! What I always found to be the most effective was simply hard physical labor. Years ago, my favorite outlet was chopping wood!

Here's a link to DocJohn's article on anger management, from PC's archives. The article provides links to a number of additional articles on the subject as well:

For me personally it depends on the anger. If I am feeling very irritable and overstimulated, I need to calm that down. I may dim the lights, find some place quiet or put on some music I like, and I try to deep breathe. This usually helps temporarily. I have also found sometimes my anger is really anxiety, fear, sadness or some other emotion manifesting as anger, and offering self compassion helps, like talking to myself and telling myself it's okay to be scared. I may also do self care like take a shower or bath, wrap myself in a warm blanket or drink some tea. Caffeine makes my anger/irritability 1000x worse so if you're anything like me avoid that. Running is an intense exercise, but maybe something like swimming or yoga could be more relaxing and calm your mind? Not sure any of this will help, but hope you find something and feel better soon.

Caffeine messes me up too. Listening to music is what helps me. My bluetooth plays my spotify all day. Switch it to classical when I really need it.

Better than ripping doors off the hinges that's for sure or other expensive items. I used to use a large punching bag but I'd punch and image knocking people out and wouldnt stop till I couldn't anymore. But I'd take it too far and long that my skin on my knuckles would be gone and bleeding. Because after I rested a few minutes I'd go again and again. It never stopped till I'd get bored of punching a bag and go look for a real fight.

Just use caution when resorting to breaking stuff as it could just enhance the rage.

That is a genius idea! There are times I'm angry and I just want to smash something to pieces. Thanks for the advice!

I'm so sorry you're hurting so much, sunnyvibes .sadhug: Dealing with anger is certainly not easy. I agree with what all the others have already wisely said better than I ever could. I'd suggest to buy a punching bag if you can. You would be able to vent your anger and frustration that way. I also agree about trying yoga if you can. I've heard it has been really helpful to some people. All the other suggestions, such as doing some exercise or listening to some classical music, are great suggestions as well! I hope you'll try to follow it. I'm sure you'll be able to get through this. Just try to do your best. That's all you can do after all. I'm so sorry you're going through all of this. Please don't give up. Remember that we're here for you if you need it. Feel free to PM me anytime. Let me know if I can do something to help you. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. I'm so sorry you have to deal with all of this
