Just curious how much caffeine everyone has daily. I'm working through a bipolar workbook and it suggests limiting caffeine to 250mg per day. That's a little more than two 8oz cups of coffee (95mg each).
I've recently started drinking two cups of coffee in the morning. I was a one cup a day person, but my meds left me feeling so sluggish that I tried using a second cup to counteract the effects. I feel like a human chemistry set lately. I am finding my body is hypersensitive to the meds and substances like caffeine. |

If I wake up feeling pretty level, I can get away with having 2 10oz cups of java. But if I feel anxiety or mania kicking in, then it's usually just one I stick to (or sometimes none). In the past, though, I've been known to have 3-4 but my doc seriously wants me to cut down. If I do have a third, it's no later than 2-3pm, and that's only if my meds keep me feeling sedated or sluggish. which they have been known to do. I would listen to your body, though, and if you get regulated to the meds and can get away with one cup, then go for it! good luck!

I know I drink more caffeine than I should, but I could be worse. I drink about one 8-oz cup of American style coffee in the morning (sometimes maybe one and half), then maybe a tall glass of iced tea or Coke Zero and/or an espresso in the afternoon. Then maybe another 2-oz espresso after dinner. So, usually three to four servings per day. When I took Lithium, I drank a bit less. Usually I'm fine, I guess, but sometimes my heart can race a little or I feel caffeine-style would up. If it's notable, I stop drinking caffeine for the day and occasionally take an Ativan. With my Seroquel, an evening espresso doesn't really keep me up.

1.5 cups in the morning. An espresso at about 11:00. Depending on whether or not somebody in the office is going to Starbucks, maybe 12oz in the afternoon. Then a large cup of tea when I get home from work.

I gave up caffeine totally in 2007 when I realized I was using it to make myself manic. Some people mess with their meds and I didn't do that but I was being just as destructive with the caffeine so it stopped.

I've had to cut back on caffeine for GI reasons, but I find having less does decrease my anxiety and agitation. I also have migraines if I have a lot of caffeine and then stop. I'm about to migrate from having hot chocolate to decaf tea, so that'll be fun.

does the black tea have caffeine? I don't usually drink tea in the morning, only at night and it's decaf. tea in the am sounds like a good idea.

I drink 2-3 cups of coffee in the morning, and I brew it pretty strong, followed by Pepsi during the day. Sometimes hot tea varies depending on mood. Also might pick up a coffee from dunkin, or a bottled dunkin coffee drink. Pretty much caffeine all day. I'm an insomniacs, and even when I cut down to 2 cups of coffee a day and no soda and herbal tea I didn't sleep so I have all I want now.

Caffeine is good.
In Cuba, my native land, we drink a lot of the probably strongest coffee in the world. At least double the strength of a good espresso, maybe more. You can practically chew it instead of drinking. Granted, the cups are smaller. But we drink at any time, many times a day. And the incidence of sui is minimal compared to the US. I personally drink it constantly during the day. At the tune of brewing it three times a day. When I was depressed, I stopped drink it. Stupid things I do guiding myself by the 'net. My shrinkette, also Cuban, told me to drink at least three small cups a day. The depression never came back. Good eight months now. Now, we are not hyper. We are electric. Hahaha. Cheers. __________________ ]Roses are red. Violets are blue.[ Look for the positive in the negative. PIRILON. If lemons fall from the sky, make lemonade. Unknown. Nothing stronger than habit. I drink about 3 strong coffee a day with no issue. However if I drink it after dinner I can have difficulty sleeping. Coffee wakes me up and makes me sharp while it lasts. When depressed even coffee can’t help me. I can barely move after many cups.

My body is heaps sensitive to caffeine. If I drink too much I get jitters, couple that with the lithium I get a bit hypomanic. My max limit is around 2 cups of strong coffee a day.

I occasionally take a caffeine pill that is 100 mg caffeine when I really need to be alert. I also occasionally drink coffee as well and keep gourmet coffee on hand for when I do. I do drink diet sodas about 2-3 times a week. Caffeine sometimes ramps up my anxiety but I don’t really limit how much I consume.

I have a big mug of black tea every morning. That's usually it. I don't drink coffee very often anymore, though I did find myself thinking I should pick some up as things have been sliding a bit lately. I think increased energy would kick me out of it. Maybe not, but I might try.
