My team is questioning my bipolar and psychosis vs IDK? Anxiety? I explode inside vs outwardly. Currently I went from BP1 to BP2 w. Anxiety. I feel like they’re getting ready to strip BP. I know I need to talk to my team but T doesn’t like labels. Anxiety is easy for me to talk about. Depression/suicide is too dark. Paranoia too scary. Mania I’m too ashamed to mention. I see pdoc 4-6x a year for 10-15 min and T every 2-3 weeks for 1 hr. T starts a conversation about mania I’m vague and eventually the subject gets changed. I feel like I look more functional than I am. I learned last session T doesn’t even know I have disordered eating. How do I get my struggles out so they can help?

Hi Mm, my first and loudest thought is to tell you to write it down. Basically, your OP that you've posted here. So write it down and take it with you to read aloud. If your treatment team doesn't know what's going on with you...well, that's not good.

As for labels, I think they're important. Labels give me a sense of security - for one thing I can read about my dx and have a clear understanding of what's going on. Also, I can form bonds with peers, like I do here.

Yeah... the DSM and it’s equivalent.. has done harm, imo

An accurate and COMPASSIONATE diagnostician is a REQUIREMENT before labels are thrown out and even a top shrink can’t quite extinguish the inaccuracy and hate an extremely sub optimal practitioner might throw out in idleness or lack of Care... JMHO

I'm writing down my thoughts and I'm going to take it to therapy but I don't have therapy for another 3.5 weeks.

I'm worried stripping the BP / psychosis will take away my AP. Which my pdoc wanted to lower last appointment. I'm fine with trying that but I don't want to be on an AD without anything. Which I will tell her.

You have done quite well sharing here in writing.
I agree with BethRags and you -- writing is likely the best avenue for you to take!

You can't treat something if you can't name it. It matters if you have strep throat or pneumonia. It also matters if you have schizophrenia or OCD.

If you have experienced mania, it is important to let your providers know that. Treating someone with bipolar for depression alone can be dangerous. I agree with the others. Write down your symptoms and share them with your providers.

Have you ever done a Life Chart? It is mostly designed for dual-diagnosis people with addiction plus, say, bp 1. But you can do it just for bp. You might look into it and see if you think it might be useful. Life Charting for Patients : Bipolar Network News

Yes, I've had mania. It use to be regularly. Now it's no longer like I "need" intervention/IP when it happens. (I probably do need intervention but I just ride it out when possible) I just have a lot of other issues too. I think I present a lot more functional then I really am.

I think people who appear to be better off than they really are can be too easily overlooked by psych professional. Most of us live out lives perfecting the art of hiding our symptoms for fear of being "found out". I'm not sure why professionals so often overlook that. If I worked with mentally ill people whatever they don't readily show is where I'd begin.

I started the mood chart again thank-you BP. I have to ask next time how I can go from SzA to anxiety in 6 months.
