I'm rereading favorite parts of David Foster Wallace's "Infinite Jest." I just reread the passage about an addict who uses straight thru her pregnancy and labor and gives birth to a malformed tiny dead fetus that she carries around with her until it is fused to her body with decay. Not showering for several days doesn't seem so bad now.

I’m reading “I hate you, don’t leave me” for my bpd.
I’m also reading a book called mindful parenting that talks about how to be present with your child. |

I have not been as avid of a reader of books as I should be, in recent years. I do a lot of online research, though. I love information.
The last book I was starting to read was Michelle Obama's "Becoming". |

Do you find mental illness affects your reading? When I’m in a depression I don’t read at all but when I’m manic I can read a bunch |

I am able to remember what I read, read longest, and even want to read best when stable or at the most mildly hypomanic. When mildly depressed, I may be able to read, it's not ideal. I tend to read more online when slightly depressed or hypomanic. It's likely related to desiring social interactions and/or support. Thanks for the thought-provoking question! I'd be curious to read how others are affected. |

I'm reading Bernard Cornwell's Fools and Mortals. It's an historical fiction about William Shakespeare and his brother Richard. My best friend picked it up about a month ago while he was waiting for me to be done with my ECT. On the way home he presented it to me on loan. I need to get it read before my next ECT lest I lose elements of the plot to my treatment. It's been difficult to read lately because my mind's not right.

I most recently read Cathy glass. She’s a foster carer in England. She writes about the children she’s fostered. I like nonfictional inspiring stories like she writes.

My mom loves her books. I can’t read them. They make me cry too much even though my mom tells me the endings are happy. |

I feel very similarly to you. I think you expressed it well. Unless I’m stable every other mood has some type of reason why my brain can’t read. |

Now I’m reading this book called choice therapy by William glasser. My therapist gave it to me. I’m a little offended by the whole book. It is basically saying that we are choosing to be depressed and we don’t need meds and people who are diagnosed as bipolar are one of two categories of people you don’t want to be in a relationship with. I’m about a third of the way done. I’m going to push through and see if I can figure out why my therapist wanted me to read this.
