BirdDancer posted an interesting statistic that says bipolar is broken down into BPI, BPII, cyclothymia and BP NOS with BPI being about 1%. I think we have a higher percentage than 1% BPI so I'm making this poll out of curiosity.
I'm so sorry that I didn't think of SZA when I was making this. It won't let me add another option to the poll after it started. I was just using the titles from Bird Dancer's article. __________________ Bipolar 1, PTSD, GAD, OCD. That will be interesting to see the results here. Thanks for posting this poll, BeyondtheRainbow.
I will say that I have noticed more people who say they have bipolar type 1 here than on various other bipolar forums. On one I used to be a facilitator for, the members were predominantly stating bipolar type 2 diagnoses. I participated on that major forum actively for about 9 years. Longer than here, where I've really only been active for a couple (?) years. My observation was not officially tallied in a formal way, though. Different forums sometimes attract different populations for various reasons. Results from unscientific polls are more for fun and though they can reveal some interesting information, the results may not reflect exactly what you think it might. I hope all responses here are official diagnoses from psychiatrists, not personal/self diagnoses or responses solely based on an online bipolar self test. Bipolar with psychosis I was told. I've been schizophrenic (never believed, no family history), schizoaffective (possibly no family history). But most recently bipolar with psychosis. Possibly some bipolar people in famiy.

Of COURSE you can hang out here, spikes!!
I started out dx'd 2 (well, MDD, but let's not go there), then it got switched to 1 at some point, I'm not sure when that happened, but it's on all my records. And I'm not clear why exactly, though there are a few suspects that come to mind. I've always kind of thought of myself in a kind of "1 1/2" way. I have more depression than is typical for 1. On the other hand, I can have longer spells of remission, which is quite un-2-like. Other stuff too, but I'm supposed to be getting ready to go. Plus I just got up and brain's not quite in gear yet. __________________ ********* Mr. Robot Makes me sick to the heart, Oh I feel so tired. - - - - Anyway to answer the thread: my Dx is BP I w/ mood-incongruent psychotic features. I basically get psychosis regardless of being in an episode or not. (Not sure if SzA instead, but psychological testing said BP I w/ mood-incongruent psychotic features rather than SzA.) |

*************************************
Brittany L. Mason, E. Sherwood Brown, and Paul E. Croarkin Behavior Science Bipolar I described the full-blown manic episode which occurs in the context of more regular depressive episodes, Bipolar I ½ described protracted hypomania in the context of depression, Bipolar II described depression with definite hypomanic episodes, Bipolar II ½ described cyclothymic depression with shorter hypomanic episodes, Bipolar III described hypomania induced by antidepressant treatment or the cessation of it, Bipolar III ½ described mania which can be induced by substance abuse, and Bipolar IV would be a lifelong hyperthymic temperament with clinical depression [24]. Under these broader descriptions of bipolar disorders, it is estimated that 4%–5% of the general population would qualify for a diagnosis, an increase from the commonly cited 1% of the general population under DSM criteria ************************************* I'm bipolar 1 and it's such a struggle to keep it from elevating to a full blown manic episode. I know when I'm starting to lose control, and sometimes I can stop it but mostly I can't. Even when I lose it my intelligence stays intact but I've been known to practically destroy someone to the point I'll get whatever I want. I'm a real life Dr.JEKYLL and Mr Hyde. I just lack the patience to deal with incompetent people which then results in having someone fired. There's nothing that I can't conquer or do better than anyone else which results in me getting irate when something isn't done correctly. I watch and observe everything that's around me. I always have this feeling of paranoia that will get so out of control that I'll hate everyone close to me. Even though it starts out as speculation all my calculations are actually correct and my paranoia proves to be fact. After studying human behavior and seeing what people are like my paranoia has only grown. People are greedy, selfish, manipulative, malicious, liars, and they don't actually love anyone. One way or another they will let you down so that's why I never allow myself to get too close to anyone. What is love anyway. Is It a constructed word to justify being there for people of the same bloodline? That's your xxxxx so you need to help him/her. Why do I need to help that person over the person living on the sidewalk? Who created that justification? I'm never going to help someone just because I'm supposed to but instead I'll help those that I want to help. I honestly rather help strangers than family. Why? Because I hate whoever created the help only family BS. If that was done away then we wouldn't have poor starving adults and children in the world. Just in my city alone we throw away thousands of pounds of food every day that's expired, because the supply was higher than the demand. Economics 101 supply and demand. If your family member doesn't have food they won't starve but you will walk past a stranger in the streets that's 100 pounds and dirty and not bat an eye. I've taken on an impossible task but it's the only thing that's keeping me going. I've already taken on other tasks that's impossible for normal people to grasp yet it's too easy for me. I don't try to be condescending but when it's easy it's just easy. Too many people regardless of what or who you are should learn to do what you can. Doing something is always better than doing nothing. Feeling sorry for yourself won't help you either. I can't be an apple and I'm not going to feel sorry for myself or do nothing because I can't achieve the impossible. I've created a scale In my mind, 1 to 10. 1 being hypomanic and 10 full blown manic episode. I'm around 8 right now. How about everyone else? I'm not proof reading so Hopefully what's on my mind made it clearly on this digital forum made up of code. Last edited by FriendlyJoe; Apr 18, 2019 at 08:31 PM.. |

I am bp 1 officially but I have my doubts. I don’t think I’ve ever been fully manic. I have had mixed episodes with psychosis though so that’s why the hospital dx me bp 1.
