I'm thinking of getting a monthly injection for Aripripazole. I'm struggling taking my meds. I spoke to my Mental Health Nurse and she said we could look into it. I have to do research which I'll do maybe tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone has had the injection?

Any thoughts?

I had the invega injection for three years. It was great, didn’t have to worry about pills (I was also on an AD patch). I don’t know about the abilify one, I can’t take abilify, but I liked the low maintenance of the invega.

Only problem was my insuarance never covered it so when my pnurse ran out of samples that was it for me. Haven’t been stable since, really.

I was on Clopixol and would get it every 2 weeks, It worked great for me, not on it now though as I wanted to stop taking meds.

I have never taken the abilify injection but for injections I have been on respirdal, haldol, invega and clopixol. They all work differently and they all come with different side effects.

I am currently taking abilify tabs only 5mgs.

It goes into the side of your leg in the muscle it’s easier to process if it’s there. it’s kind of painful I am not a fan of needles myself so I always ask them to not to tell me when they were going to jab me. It’s usually over quickly and they put a band aid on for safe measure.

I loved my abilify shot but I switched clinics and they don't offer it.

There is also a generic available but it is still costly.

If you’re struggling to take meds then injections are a great idea. If I didn’t have my hubby to help I’d consider injections.

Thanks guys, in the UK we dont have health insurance. In Scotland our meds are free. Thankfully or I would be bankrupt lol. We spoke about it but since this post nearly a year ago I have managed 8 months compliancy. So I'm well chuffed with that. Long may it continue. My Psychiatrist upped the morning and evening Depakote to 750mg instead of 500mg. As I'm struggling with depression at the moment. Hopefully that'll work for me.

That's a great run of compliance. Nice job. Hopefully the new adjustments work out well for you.
