have you ever tried hydroxyzine? its an old school antihistamine that can double as a sleeping pill, in sufficient doses. im just asking because...if it could take care of the insomnia, that'd spare you the risks from taking 2 antipsychotics/tranquilizers. oh, and its an excellent treatment for hay fever. that, too. :-)

Not to steal the thread but does that sleeping med cause sleep hangovers the next day? I am curious cause I am on Ambien and I only get like 6 to 7 hours of sleep which is better then I was in the past without sleep meds.

I've been on Latuda for 3 years. Overall, it's been a good med for me. Works better for depression than anything I've been on. I will say that when I first started it (and have had dosage changes), it kind of made me feel hypomanic for a bit. I also had BAD irritability for a couple weeks in the beginning. I did level out though after a few weeks. The dosage increase wasn't as bad as when I started it. Other than that, I really haven't had any side effects and it's been weight neutral.

I am taking Latuda for about 2 years and a half. For me, this medication is a life saver, I was in a severe stage of depression, nothing was working until my Psychiatrist prescribed Latuda. It was like I finally woke up from a dark place.
I started with 20 mg. At the time, I am taking 60 mg per day at night time with food. Latuda makes me very active in the first 4 weeks, then goes away. Help me that I am also taking Seroquel 50 mg. and mood stabilizer Lamictal.

I don't have bad side effects. It does make me very sleepy after taking it so I have to eat late at night and go to bed very soon. I hope it is working for you as well.

I've never been on hydroxyzine. I wonder if it would work for me. Thanks for this info.

It's good to hear that the initial side effects decrease with time.

Now that I am reading that Latuda has not been approved for mixed episodes (or mania), it concerns me a little bit about whether this would work. My pdoc said that she's really concerned about my manic symptoms (mixed) and said I presented that way when I saw her a few days ago.

I hope this medication does not exacerbate my manic symptoms. I think she is trying to avoid putting me on something requiring blood work at the moment, so she figures Latuda is worth a try.

I took my first dose yesterday, and at night I was unable to sleep, had an outburst, anger, racing thoughts. Eventually I slept a few hours, but it took a long time to go to sleep, even with Seroquel and Klonopin. But maybe it's not the medication causing this so far, but more so the fact that I am experiencing an episode. At least I am tolerating the Latuda physically.

I’ve been on Latuda for about 14months. At first it made me really sleepy but I got used to it after a couple weeks and now it doesn’t do that. It’s never been activating for me. It’s been a pretty good anti manic for me. Or maybe, anti mixed episode. Really seemed to help my agitation.

That's good to know that it is sometimes effective as an anti manic. I guess I need to trust my pdoc that she thinks Latuda would help address that in combination with my other meds.

It's not officially a mood stabilizer but it's FDA approved for schizophrenia (and thus manic episodes) and depression, so it should even out your moods. I've been taking it something like 6 years. I take Wellbutrin for depression though and it works better than Latuda for that. I also take Lamictal because my doctors have liked what they consider to be a boost with stabilization. When I started Latuda it gave me horrible akathisia, but I take propranolol for that and it works wonderfully. I take 50mg of Seroquel for sleep with Lunesta (Yes, I take a lot of drugs.). Neither my doctor nor my insurance are concerned about the two antipsychotics since the Seroquel dose is so low. Latuda has never made me sleepy--I wish it did-- or activated me either--also wish it did.

What has your experience been with Latuda, for those of you who have been on it (or are still on it)? I get so nervous about taking new meds, but it has come down to it being necessary. I am hoping this medication helps.
Thanks.
My experience with Latuda was bad but don’t worry about the experiences of others. We’re all different. Ok

Latuda was good for me for about 18months. I posted on this thread about 6 weeks ago. Now, I’m having more side effects. I’m on 30mg. At 40mg it made my hands shake so we decreased it. It hasn’t been weight neutral for me. I’ve been slowly gaining on it. I was manic and underweight at first so I didn’t notice. Also, I’ve just now started getting akesthesia. It happens about 40min after I take it. Just saw my pdoc and he was ok with decreasing it to25mg taken right before bedtime so I’m asleep by the time the akesthesia hits. I don’t like this, I think I should go down to 20mg. But I’m trying to be compliant. I’m so disappointed, before this I thought Latuda was the best thing ever.

I have been on latuda for almost 2 years now. I think we changed from risperdal to latuda because of weight gain. It worked very quickly and it, along with trileptal, has been the best combination. I also take adderall to help me stay focused at work and naltrexone to help control my weight (cravings). When I was on a higher dose of latuda (60), i had to take medication to keep down nausea and vomiting. When it was reduced to 40, that stopped. Im now on 30. My only complaint has been drowsiness in the morning. To the point that Im late for work because I can't wake up. This has been better since the dosage was reduced. I'm still working through this reduction, so we will see how it goes.
