I just took it based on the last month- including up until today. Here is my result:
Results of your Bipolar Test Mania Score: 44 Depression Score: 19 Possible Diagnosis: Bipolar I You would likely meet the diagnostic criteria for Bipolar I. (Only a mental health professional can make a real diagnostic determination.) Bipolar disorder - Severe symptoms Based upon your responses to this bipolar screening test, you appear to be suffering from severe symptoms associated with a bipolar disorder. People who have answered similarly to you typically qualify for a diagnosis of Bipolar I and have sought professional treatment for this disorder. You appear to have manic episodes. You appear to also suffer from depressive episodes as a part of your disorder. You should not take this as a diagnosis of any sort, or a recommendation for treatment. However, it would likely be beneficial for you to seek further diagnosis from a trained mental health professional. __________________ Wellbutrin XL 300 mg Loxapine 50mg Ingrezza 80 mg Ativan .5 mg 2x/day Propranolol 20 mg 2x/day Mania (December 2023) Mixed episode/Hypomania (September 2023) Depression, Anxiety and Intrusive thoughts (September 2021) Depression & Psychosis (July/August 2021) Mania (April/May 2019) |

I have a mania score similar to the OP's; my depression score is something like 26. The test is pretty accurate as I am indeed diagnosed with bipolar 1. I've taken it several times and the results are always the same.

I took it twice. The first time I answered based on how I feel now. My scores were low and it did not indicate I am bipolar. The second time I took it I answered as though it were 6 months ago and I was in the middle of my episode. My mania score was 24 and my depression score was 3 indicating a possible Bipolar I diagnosis.
My doctors are on the fence and said we just have to give it time. |

I think most of us here obviously get reasonable results from such tests, but we are mostly all already formally diagnosed. My fear with such tests is to do with other individuals' perspectives. Wouldn't some people with bipolar disorder minimize and others without it exaggerate?
Though likely only some, I do think there are people who label themselves "bipolar" without even having a formal diagnosis. In my view, tests like these don't help in preventing that, despite their disclaimers. I do have a formal bipolar 1 diagnosis and do get a bipolar 1 result on these types of tests, but some questions I don't answer as "All of the time " or even "Quite a lot" because though I've had very severe and frequent symptoms, I haven't had episodes constantly throughout my life. I have had remissions between episodes, and sometimes even if I still had symptoms, they aren't always severe, or I have lacked insight into them. I agree that putting these tests in the present tense only is odd. Shouldn't they be "Have you ever had (or currently have)?" Isn't one of the questions in the manic section a yes or no about if you've been hospitalized for mania? I assume if you answer yes, your "score" skyrockets. |
