An interesting article came into my email from bphope.com (affiliated with Bp Magazine) on impulsivity in people with bipolar disorder. In the email version, the following interesting statement appeared at the top:
"Impulsivity is a common symptom of bipolar disorder, even outside of mania. Researchers are working to pinpoint why this predisposition toward rapid, unplanned reactions occurs." The article goes on to explain why this may be and what is believed to be happening in the brains of people with this predisposition. The full article is at Impulsivity: What’s Happening In The Brain | bpHope.com Do you find yourself to be somewhat or very impulsive at times, even outside of official or significant bipolar episodes? |

I think I have an impulsive side and also a really controlled/anxious side and they fight it out sometimes. So I might be ready and willing to jump on a plane in an hour and fly across the world, but only if I have the financial means would I actually do it haha. Usually it is more that I am spontaneous, not too impulsive in a negative way, but I have experienced feeling impulsive in a negative way, too.

Occasionally I am impulsive outside of an episode. Usually by making swift decisions that alter my course dramatically. However, this is nothing compared to when I am in an episode.

I am the polar opposite of impulsive unless I am in an episode which then I am the epitome of impulsive. It’s wild!

I'm impulsive occasionally, regardless of episodes. I also have borderline PD so that may come into play.

I'm not a very impulsive person at all. I tend to totally overthink things. Except in an episode of course, then who knows what stupid non-thinking thing I will do.
