I currently just left an abusive situation with my husband. And due to that he took me and my kids off of his insurance. I can't afford our own insurance right now and as a household me and my kids make too much to get govt assistance (even though they dont pay or help me out). What over the counter meds or cheap alternative are there to help with BPD? I was diagnosed last year but I could never afford the meds. And now, I know I'm getting worse because the faces are appearing everywhere again and my night terrors are getting worse since I lost my 2nd job and actually have the ability to sleep now. I'm becoming a complete mess.

Your husband sounds cruel, DarkenedSoul. I'm sorry that you have to deal with that.
I am not sure of any real advice for you, but can you seek some sort of legal advice? I would hope that your husband would at least have to keep your kids insured under his plan, but I don't know. Can you try to find a free or low cost clinic to seek medical advice? Or if you can afford your doctor, ask him/her what your options for medications are? I know that in the US (assuming you're in the US) that even though most medications are unreasonably and almost criminally expensive, there are still some more economical options, even if it's 1st generation APs. I don't know how much they would cost out of pocket, but I doubt that much. Though I know Lithium is reasonably priced, it does require blood work to be done, which isn't always cheap. I have heard of some pharmacies offering discount plans, but I am not that knowledgeable about them. You can always ask. I've heard Walmart and Costco as places people have mentioned. Again, for certain medications it may be reasonable. Definitely not name brands., I wouldn't think. |

You may want to call community health clinic and make an appointment (urgent care maybe cheaper). Then print out the list of $4 meds from places like walmart, CVS, walgreens and supermarkets then make a list of which mental health medication's you can afford to take with you. Write down all of your symptoms.
At my walmart: lamictal is $4/month, Topiramate (topamax) $9 OXcarbazepine (Trileptal) $9 lithium $4 lithium ER $9 Divalproex Sodium (Depokote) $9 Olanzapine (zyprexa) is $9, Quetiapine (Seroquel) is $9, Risperidone is $4 These are close to supplement prices. The only huge fee is the dr visit and they maybe able to make a payment plan. __________________ Dx: Me- SzA Husband- Bipolar 1 Daughter- mood disorder+ Comfortable broken and happy "So I don't know why I'm tongue tied At the wrong time when I need this."- P!nk My blog |

Name brand meds can actually be cheaper when you are low income/uninsured because patient assistance programs provide the drugs free of charge. Even if you don't qualify 100% applying and providing an explanation that you still can't afford the co-pay for your medication they will usually grant exemptions and give you a year of free meds. I get several meds this way and I do have Medicare.
Prescription Prices, Coupons & Pharmacy Information - GoodRx lets you compare med prices locally. RX Outreach - Patient Assistance Program, Discount Prescription Drugs provides meds with very low copays. __________________ Bipolar 1, PTSD, GAD, OCD. I do not know about over the counter stuff but I would get in touch with some sort of legal service. I believe it is against the law or something like that to just remove children from a parent's insurance. Did he tell you that? Or did you find out because your kids needed a doc or meds and they were denied. If you are basing this off of what he says then you need to call the insurance company and confirm. Open enrollment for insurances is in October or November and that is when you make changes. You cant just change things whenever you want .

My kids are young adults and teens (17, 19, 20). We are all work. My 20yr old has her own place and insurance. But the other 2 are with me. I'm the only one that pays the bills. But household wise, we make too much to get assistance but I dont make enough to afford insurance on my own. I literally live paycheck to paycheck.
He left a message on my voicemail telling me that he was taking us off of the insurance since we left. (Sorry but I was tired of being physically and verbally abused. ) I can't really seek any legal help such as child support or so on because he'll have the right to know where we are living. So that's not going to happen. I also cannot file for divorce right now, 1 because I can't afford $2500 to retain a lawyer. And 2 because then I'll be responsible for all of his debt (Tennessee martial law). I will check and see if I can qualify for the community clinic that we have. I just need something. Because I'm tired of not sleeping and tired of my head just being jumbled. Thank you all |

On the other, are you absolutely sure? I can't imagine where the location of an abused person would be disclosed to the abuser. Also, usually, getting married may bring the other person's debt into your arena (unless pre-nup precludes), but getting divorced? That makes no sense to me. Why would people not get divorced right and left just to dump their debt on someone else? I really can't fathom these things being true. Do you have this information from a legal source? I think it would also be a good idea to contact a women's shelter. They deal with this kind of thing all the time and at the very least should be able to direct you to resources. (Oh, and p.s., just FYI, on these boards we use BP for bipolar, and BPD for borderline personality disorder. Just letting you know to avoid confusion.) __________________ ********* Mr. Robot Makes me sick to the heart, Oh I feel so tired. Thank you. I was told this from a divorce attorney and a domestic violence lawyer. It's insane, but that is how Tennessee law is. The martial debt is split. The problem is that all the debt is his. Everything is in his name. All of credit cards, personal loans, payday loans, etc I would have to pay back. And I'm not about to do that.
As for my location, yes, his lawyer would have the right to see my personal information, of course, which could be "accidentally " shown to him. I was diagnosed with bpd/bp/schizophrenia |
