Its not great. As tempting as it is, its not something I would suggest to anyone. Especially if you are just going cold turkey without doctor approval/guidence. A lot of meds have some really nasty side effects when suddenly stopped.
I get the temptation. I went for it. I took myself off. To me, it's no where near worth it. Its crippling. At least for me. If you do though, please please consult your doctor first. A lot of those side effects can be lethal. |

I would also recommend consulting your doctor. Be careful especially about any anticonvulsants if you're on any for mood stabilization, it's dangerous to stop them suddenly

hi. stopping the psych drugs is often tempting. id personally speak to an md/do about supervising a slow, steady taper, if this is something that's important to you. there are some practitioners out there who help get people off at least some of their psych drugs...i think its now called 'de-prescribing,' something like that, anyway.
please remember that the brain adapts to ongoing treatment, so stopping suddenly can often result in a definite withdrawal/discontinuation syndrome, plus the possible re-emergence of problems/symptoms that were controlled by treatment. just...please be careful, please be cautious. |

There have been a few people here who recently tried the same. I think some have been more successful than others. It definitely seems a like a step down approach is a little easier to handle. I agree with the others though that it is worth talking it over with your doctor.
What results are you hoping for specifically? |

I really wish there was a separate forum for these types of things. I find it difficult to really give any support in these cases, unless a doctor is helping with the reductions or there is a real medical reason for medication discontinuance (health reasons, like heart problems, or attempts to get pregnant). Sorry! I'll just ignore these posts from now on.
All that goes through my head in these cases is how I damaged my mental health even more severely from similar cold turkey medication discontinuance and how my nephew's resulted in his suicide. |

I have carefully gotten off my meds. Of course I’m doing fine atm. We shall see how things go over time.
I don’t know what your taking but it’s real best to taper them down. No reason to go cold turkey and feel like shyt. If you want to talk feel free to PM me. __________________ Helping others gets me out of my own head ~ |

Glad to hear that, I was recently considering going off meds but thought better of it when confronted with the stats of recurrence and the huge potential for disaster if I relapsed! Keep fighting the good fight, you can do this!

Very rarely do I hear of an example where things got better by coming off of meds.

I always become psychotic after coming off meds. I am finally receiving shots.
