I've always scored high on bipolar tests & nearly max for borderline personality disorder, but the past few weeks I've been getting feelings never felt before. All of a sudden while thinking about personal plans for myself I'll get abnormally excited & happy, but 10 to 30 minutes later for some reason out of the blue a swarm of doubt & sadness will sweep through me, which is accompanied with such energy drainage like I've never felt before. There's also a discomforting feeling near the tail bone area, which I often get when I'm completely energy drained. In the spiritual community they call it the root chakra.

Has anyone ever gone through this and found natural ways to heal other than lithium and other drugs? Maybe going to the gym, camping, lots of outdoor activities, eating healthy, and perhaps most importantly making a good friend? I have none of those.

Thanks for any help.

This is a great question. I’m new here and have also experienced similar feelings. I’ve never grasped “hope for the best, prepare for the worst” because I feel like it’ll always get worse. I’d love to hear of some natural healing as well. Sending my best, autumn 🍂

Some non-pharmacological things that have been shown to work for depression are exercise and gratitude journalling. Exciting research is being conducted into gut health, inflammation and the link with mental health so certain probiotics DHA in fish oil and 5-methyltetrahydrofolate are all emerging supplements for mental health. Caffeine, alcohol and recreational drugs make things worse as does sleep disturbances so avoiding these things helps! HOWEVER, BP is a biological imbalance in the brain so currently meds are the best treatment!

I have also read that fish oil helps. It was in several books I read recently and my therapist recommended it to me.

I take flaxseed oil in place of fish oil as I'm allergic to seafood. Ive also been walking and riding my bike this Spring.

The best non medicine treatment for BPD is DBT but it requires work so many won't do it.

That it does. I took it twice but the first time I was introduced to it, I didn't understand it at all and I quit right away. When I finally did take it 13 or so years later, I was more determined to finish the program. It does take doing homework and lots of thought but its once a week, not evvery day. Its totally doable.

I think this is what you're referring to as DBT

Dialectical behavior therapy - Wikipedia

Seems like something one can do on their own, or maybe with the help of a book.

Yes, that is what DBT stands for.

I need my meds right now but there are lots of things that I try on top of that to keep me healthy.

Eating healthy
Exercising
Essential oils
Vitamins and supplements (D, B12, Omegas especially)
Yoga
Meditation
Gratitude journaling
I made a coping box to help with coping strategies
I’m doing DBT and individual therapy
Crystals. Not sure if they work or not
I see a MA psych who specializes in life plans and healthy living. She has talked me through my charts and chakras.

That’s all I can think of right now. But I try as much as I can.
