This time I didn't ask my son to carry down the container of kitty litter. It is a 14 kg bucket with handle from walmart. I decided to carry it down the stairs myself. That was not a good idea.

I have a wobbly ankle that is missing a ligament from falling on the ice a few winters ago, so inched the bucket down a few stairs at atime by standing sideways and then rotating it down from one step above me to one or two steps below. I think it was the last rotation that did it. I felt fine immediately afterwards but in about 10 minutes noticed some pain. By the next morning I had alot of pain to get up from a sitting position and take those first steps or

for that matter, to sit on the toilet. Mostly it is getting up from lying or sitting that is the problem. I go really slow like I was 90 years old or something and I am only 56.

I am pretty sure it is the gluteus medius muscle that I tore and I read on dr. google that it is weeks to months to heal and there can be problems with healing too.

So I am just taking it easy but also have to do things like bend down to feed the cat or do laundry.

It's how one thing leads to another. A bad ankle leads to a bad hip. My ankle injury is permanent. I am hoping the hip is not. It is too early for any kind of physio. Anyway i know the exercises to do as I had physio before for weak hip muscles, when I was recovering from my ankle injury. Now i am just more unstable and more likely also to fall. My bad ankle is getting more weight than it is used to because the injured hip is on the other side.

Well, I just wanted to get this out of my system. It is going to take some patience and just accept I have to live with pain at least for awhile.

I don't like the sensation of ice and I think the injury is very deep inside so it would take a massive amount of icing I'm not set up to do at home and don't want to go to physio right now for it. Anyway the injury was on Sunday and it's more than 72 hours now. I took an ibuprofin on the 1st day after when I woke up the morning after it was really hurting.

The ibuprofin didn't make any difference to the pain level.

I think the main thing is not to reinjure it again and not to fall.

I hope this resolved quickly. Ibuprofen is usually very helpful

I'm sorry this happened. Torn muscles are so painful. How are you feeling today?

I'm actually in similar pain. Going down stairs and sitting down are the worst right now. I started a new workout program that is kicking my butt and I am sore all over. I'm on day 4 and it is getting a little better though. I am not giving up and just need to push through while my body adjusts.

Nammu, I sometimes also have asked my son to do it when he is home visiting. I just leave it at the top of the stairs. There is a light weight version that I might switch to when this batch is done. I also bruised my leg getting this off the shelf in walmart because it fell faster than I was expecting when I lifted it off. So I have a bruise and a badly pulled muscle just to bring some kitty litter home. Another answer is to just buy smaller containers.

Yeah, Christina, the morning after the injury was the worst pain and unfortunately ibuprofen didn't seem to help that day. Yesterday I took another one and had a hot shower and was able to drive and get out to do a few things. it is slightly better each day, so it's definitely healing. I read these kinds of injuries are weeks to months to heal depending on how severe it is.

I'm sorry you are sore all over, fern. It's part of getting back in shape. Just take it easy and don't injure yourself. My pain is very localized to the hip and lower back.

Today is a little better than yesterday and yesterday was a little better than the day before and I can see a difference from the first morning I woke up with this injury (that was the day after I did the step thing) and today. It is hurting less to walk and the pain on getting up from seating is down a notch or two, so it takes less mental effort to try to get up.

I took a robaxacet this morning and was able to get through some exercises for hip stabilization and stretches this morning on my exercise pad and foam roller. I learned these from the last physio that I saw. At least my shoulder is a lot better than a few months ago. I have a calcified tendonitis in it. My muscles are in a constant state of either tension or over extension so I have to do these exercises and stretches and yoga positions to counteract that.

My friend who I have been complaining about on my other thread has been encouraging me so that is nice.

I was going to ask you if you had a muscle relaxer med but it looks like you do already. I have some for my lower back and sides and it helps.

Hi Fharraige, yeah I took another robaxacet this morning. I'm out now but will pick some up at the pharmacy after I see my pdoc today.

My mobility is a little better than yesterday morning so the exercises and stretches did not make things worse. I will keep doing them today. I discovered yesterday that I actually have a lot of stiffness on the opposite side to my injury. It gives me something to work on everyday and hopefully I will see some progress in terms of my flexibility and ability to get up and down from a sitting position, or to sit comfortably. I am trying to prevent the muscles around the injury from tightening up further as a reaction to the injury.

Well I am in more or less constant pain unless I am lying down but I am much more mobile than when I first got the injury, or more specifically the morning after, when I could barely get out of bed. I can even sit with my legs crossed in the morning on my sofa and type this. Sitting on wooden chairs is tough still.

I've got the patio door open to cool off the house in the morning before it gets hot.

I keep reminding myself that the injury is much better than it was at the beginning. On the other hand certain positions can bother me a lot. Like I was driving yesterday and my hip hurt. Fortunately it is the left one and doesn't affect my driving leg. I can still glance over my shoulder to check traffic but just barely. That is the motion that hurts the worst.

The good side is that this has got me doing my stretches and exercises I am supposed to do every day and if I had been doing I probably wouldn't have hurt myself to begin with.

Life has consequences.

Next week is my now yearly scan for lung cancer. Then I get the results a week later. It's that waiting time in between, sometimes they schedule the doctor's appointment 2 weeks after the scan. Well I just feel like a number in the Canadian health care system. Who cares that someone waits 2 weeks to get the results of their cancer scan?

So this time I called and made them change it. I refused to wait so long. Now the wait is 6 days.
