For those of you who are in a relationship, how long did you wait to tell your significant other that you have Bipolar Disorder? When is it the right time?
The fact that I am beginning to date again is bringing back all the insecurities. I don't like having to explain that I take many pills per day or have to explain what it really means to have Bipolar. I know that there's no pressure to tell someone right away, but it makes me nervous thinking about the rejection down the road. __________________ Bipolar 1 Disorder, Unspecified Anxiety Disorder |

I had to lay out everything for my family before they would release me from ip ... being totally upfront has made it easier on my family I truly believe...
others ... only as needed to know ... which means very few .... when to tell a new love interest ... I might wait for them to ask ... if they never see anything wrong then why open that can of worms ... but ... if they find out later ... it could seem as if you did not trust them ... my advise is to just be honest and if it comes up be completely open ... if your rejected maybe it might be for the best ... good luck my friend ... |

I think keeping it general by saying 'I have a mental health issue' is fair in the beginning. If the relationship gets serious you can share that its bipolar.
