I took several college courses my senior year. I took 'survival skills' because it got me out of first period every day and I could sleep in an hour longer. I didn't really have any expectations going in. This class taught all of the basics for survival in the wilderness with limited or no supplies. We learned how it felt to be dehydrated and to go without food. We learned how to build effective shelters from nature. We learned how to navigate using the land and the sun and we learned how to read the land to find water and food. It was by far the most valuable class I've ever taken.

Do you enjoy all of the pumpkin spice flavored items available during fall?

As a matter of fact, I am. I am obsessed with everything in my life being associated with an even number. For example, when I'm riding my bike, I often count pedal strokes to distract me from the pain. But it can only be an even number, almost always a 4 or a 10. If I'm at the store buying pears, I have to buy either two or four--never, ever three. Of course, I live on the third floor...

Have you ever been to Barcelona?

Q: Have you ever been to Barcelona?
A: No. I've never been to Europe.

Q: Have you ever been to Niagara Falls?

ditto this. I can not stand odd numbers

it's especially bad when you go to buy groceries and you realise that the pack of what ever you're buying has an odd number of items in it (I can't do it, even if I got 2).

I feel really guilty if I walk out with an odd number.

big issue over here and it does mean that I spend more than I have sometimes

something else: I'm attached to the number 8,

so if possible, I try to get things in 8

(but also 2's). 1 pack of 8 won't do

shopping is a nightmare

I'm OK with being at high altitudes, in general, but in Ecuador and Peru, both hubby and I had mild altitude sickness. It eased. I was once on the top of the World Trade Center before we lost it. That was fine. But would I want to stand long on the precipice of a tall mountain? No.

Compared to most people, I've traveled A LOT! I always loved traveling, and so does my husband. Since my husband is a European, we have traveled to Europe a lot and I had traveled to a few countries there even before meeting him. We also love domestic travel in the US and have enjoyed traveling to other parts of the world, as well. I had lived in a couple Asian countries briefly as a young woman, and visited others. We never had children, so made travel a high priority for us. I've never been to Russia, though. As a college student, I tried to convince my friends to take the Trans Siberian Express with me, but they refused. In truth, they were not really "roughin' it" kind of gals, like I was. Back then it would have been quite rough. In my middle-age now, I no longer wish to do such rough trips, neither does my husband.

Q: Beyond bare necessities, what kinds of things have you splurged on (for money) for pleasure purposes?

I honestly can't think of anything. I'm a pretty practical shopper. Even this computer was purchased with gift cards and I only paid $40 because it was on sale as well. I do splurge on presents for my nieces; most recently a balance beam for one and a pile of books and Harry Potter stuff for the other.

Q: Have you ever used a weighted blanket?

OMG! I had no idea anyone else had this thing, too. Thank you for this, because I felt like a freak! And yes, shopping and driving (counting streets and turns and looking at addresses) is great fun. Living on the third floor is a nightmare for me.

A: So crazy that you mention that because my last google search was 'weighted blankets.' I want to get one, as sleep is a nightmare for me. They are kinda expensive, though.

Q: What is the best pasta dish you have ever eaten in your whole life?

I had never heard of them until Bluebicycle mentioned them in another thread. I need to look into one. I keep imagining them to be like the 'thunder jackets' for dogs who fear storms

none.

I really don't like pasta

in fact: I remember quite vividly my school serving up some pasta, and me just looking at it going...... yuck, no

I don't like it

question: do you like something on while you are getting to sleep? (tv, audiobook, relaxing sounds) or do you like it to be quiet

I never like any kind of talking, TV or music, but I do enjoy nature sounds (summer insects, birds, wind, rainfall, fireplace). I have a sound machine and did use it a lot in the past. I really like it and find it to be quite helpful. I just haven't needed it so much for a while.

A: Given my current workout schedule of starting my ride at 0430 (the reason is to avoid traffic), 0330 would probably be about right. It's usually much earlier, though.

Q: If you were going out for a casual walk and you didn't care what you looked like, what shoes would you wear?

Flip flops. I pretty much live in my flip flops. If it was winter I'd wear my Crocs tennis shoes. They are very comfy. I'd only wear my workout shoes if I was planning to jog or do a lot of hills.

What time do you go to bed each night?

A: I’d wear either sneakers with everything or go barefoot if I could. I go to bed at 10pm.

Q: I’d have a cat if strata would allow it. What kind of pet do you have or wish you had?

A. Tortoise. My life and home don't really support owning one, but I like a tortoise.

Q. What was the last lie you told?
