I chose the second one. The "Yes". Though I am always at least a little happy/relieved when I shower, that doesn't mean that that sufficiently motivates me to do it as often as I should.

It helps my mood a lot. Although I have had some times in my life where I go through phases where it upsets me due to my eating disorder and being unhappy with my body

I agree, same issue with showering. I do feel better once I have showered, but to get to a shower takes profound motivation.

Second one for me too. I feel better after, but it's hard to motivate myself to do it.

I find it very hard to motivate myself to shower so I don’t do it as often as I should. I find it very difficult to get in the shower but once I do I always feel better. I just wish I could do it more often.

Showers are like a breath of fresh air for me. Being in water in general feels that way. There is a highly restorative quality to it. I usually clear my mind and then focus my intention for the rest of the shower. It helps to reset my mind, body and spirit.

Sometimes the water hitting my skin just hurts ( thanks Fibro )

But I shower every single day and 98% of the time it’s soothing , healing and just wonderful regardless of my mood. Fresh clothes feel fantastic!

I just made a law for myself shower every day no matter what. I mean it only takes a few mins. I don’t wash my hair everyday as that’s not healthy for hair anyway.

Well ...... thanks to our propane gas company that didn’t deliver on Thursday as we expected since our tank gauge reads 0 !!!!!! I’m afraid to risk a shower in case it flips 100% cold while in and covered in soap and shampoo. We have a deep well and it’s freezing cold. So washing up like I’m from the 1800’s , Monday can’t get here fast enough !

Take willpower to get myself into the shower but I feel great once it's done. Like Christina I don't wash my hair every time I shower and it take just a few minutes. I find I sleep better after a shower so I mostly take them at night.

I feel this way, too. I'm not sure when it started to be a problem. I used to shower every day and didn't think of skipping but I know it has been at least a year since I started avoiding them.

You are not alone. showering and mood

No, showers don't help my mood very much when I'm depressed. I will feel better for like 10 mins after a shower, but then that better feeling wears off. I do take showers regardless, though. Gotta stay clean, not just for yourself, but for others.

Christina ~ Just water hitting your skin hurts you. I get the same thing and I do not have Fibro. Baths can be very painful to experience and then other times it can be very soothing. Sometimes it hurts all over just being alive (hard to explain).

I shower and wash my hair every day. If I don't want to, I am struggling with something that is bothering me.

I do feel better once I am out of the shower. Clean clothes or jammies and clean wet hair feel great to me, LOL Add fresh sheets, snacks and a yummy beverage and I am a happy camper!

I find myself staring at the shower trying to force myself to get in but I just can’t seem to do it

showers do wonders for me when I have the energy to take one. I do meditation and prayer when in the shower. but if I'm manic, like I am now, the shower lasts only 5 minutes because I'm itching to hurry up and get on to the next thing.

I always feel better after a shower. It's hard to get myself in there, but once I'm in there I'm ok.

Like several of you, I find it more difficult to get in the shower than to actually bathe and put on clean clothes. After I've done it, however, I feel marvelous! I also feel like I've accomplished something and as a Spoonie, I know it's worth the cost in spoons.
