ETA: I"m not trying to complain. I accept these side effects and really don't care because of how well the med works for me after failing so many other meds. I'm truly just interested in what others have experienced that was weird.

I'm laying here goopy with lotion and vaseline on my chin because my skin is really irritated and dry from heavy grooling from Clozapine. It's been quite a challenge to fix the skin.

Also thanks to Clozapine I'm wearing an incontinence pad because I sleep so soundly I pee in my sleep and I don't want messes.

I'm kinda self-conscious about the rash from drooling. The wetting the bed I'm used to, sadly.

What other weird side effects do you get from BP meds?

Thay sound like tough side effects to manage. Is the med effective for you? The worst I’ve had was lactating while on risperidone. It’s why I stopped it. Right now I deal with body tremors, and a dip in creativity, both due to Lithium. Lithium has worked well for me but I am hoping to try weaning off soon. I can always jump back on if I find out I need it.

It works great and I don't mind the side effects much, I just think they are strange.

I hope you can get your meds working well without struggling soon. Lithium can be really picky but when it works it is good stuff.

Ok I was on Invega about 6 months I was drooling like crazy , I was laying a towel over my pillow each night, I had this huge rash around my lips and chin.

My GP has me see a dermatologist, he walked in and said Cheilitis ! It’s a rash that’s caused by drooling !!

They prescribed a compounded cream and it cleared things up quickly. Once clear every once in a while I got the beginning of the rash and I’d start applying for a few days and gone again.

I didn’t need it after I quit Invega.

Defiantly get it checked out , there is help.

Beyondtherainbow, I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I have never tried clozapine, but have heard of its effectiveness.

I have experienced somewhere in the ballpark of 20 different side effects altogether between the many medications I've tried over the years. My current mix gives me very few and only very minor ones. The weirdest of the 20 mentioned was probably double vision I had when first starting Tegretol XR, and involuntary lip puckering (dystonia) from Navane (thiothixene).

an urge to chain smoke on zyprexa...then again on stimulants, but obviously for opposite reasons.

nightmares and -anger- on seroquel. i thought it was to calm you down? blah.

sounding stoned on trileptal.

i write -better- on a small dose of gabapentin. once the intital stoopid wears off, there's...better flow, better word choice.

back in the day, tics in between my 2 doses of ritalin. i didn't know it then, but that means you're taking way too much.

I don’t think that’s too weird. I got double vision on abilify and seroquel, and my eyes would uncontrollably move upwards. However, the effects would fortunately wear off about 4 hours after taking them. Seems pretty common. Sorry you had to experience that too, though. It sucks.

It seemed pretty "weird" to me. I mentioned what I thought was "weird", not the "worst". I've had plenty of side effects that were far more severe/distressing. If you want "worst" then I'd say akathisia (I had a very severe case), a pituitary microadenoma, and kidney damage. I wouldn't call them weird, at least not as I use that word. The dystonia was quite disconcerting, too, but was at least short-lasting because of a quick dosage reduction.

I didn't know diplopia/double visionwas such a common side effect. I don't hear others write about it much. Perhaps my bout was weirder than most.

~Christina, was the rash like really bad dry skin but kind of leathery and scaly? I am so glad to know that this is a real thing and once my real doctor is working again I'll ask about it . I am so confused why I'm getting this now; I've been on Clozaril for almost 4 years and the drooling started IP when I was titrating up. I am having a hard time not picking at it and I'm sure that's a bad, bad idea.

Thanks for giving me some hope. GI first, gross rash 2nd.

Yes it was exactly that way but mine was cracking my lips horrible also. I was able to eat anything unless I took a small piece by hand in set it onto my tongue, nothing could touch my lips or surrounding areas it was painful and omg just gross.

They also told me to take a super B supplement as lack of B vitamins can be a factor also.

I hope you can that at least cleared up soon

By far, the worst experience (side effect) I've had was from Seroquel. I gained 130lbs. over a seven-year period on that poison. My standard weight before Seroquel was 107lbs.

But the most recent, and very odd, experience I've had with a psych med was this past week-end. I was doing somewhat better on 3mg. of Navane. So my pdoc increased the dose to 7mg.

90 miuntes after taking the Navane I became sleepy. I mean, sleepy as in, I fell asleep while walking across the room. I awoke as I started to fall to the floor, made it back to the bed, and slept for the next day and a half. Or possibly 2 days. I don't know, because the hours got messed up and confused. I would manage to get up for 5 or 10 minutes max to feed the cats, go to the bathroom, eat a small snack, or drink water. Then falling asleep again, back to bed.

The strangest part was...I think I remember feeling extremely overheated, as if my core temperature was on overdrive. I was asleep in bed, then I awoke in the shower, partly standing under a cold shower half-dressed. Wow. I thought, WHAT am I doing in here?! But all I could possibly manage to do was peel off my wet clothes and go back to sleep.

I lost track of the days...it was a freaky experience. I'll see my pdoc today; I hope she takes this reaction seriously and suggests a different med, not just dropping the Navane down.

How did it go with the pdoc BethRags?

I had a similar incident once; I don't remember what meds. I remember nothing from Friday evening until Sunday evening when I called my mom thinking it was Saturday. Thank God I made that call or I would have missed work without calling in because I was so sure it was Saturday.

I also once fell asleep on the toilet in a vacation rental after much less sleep than usual so I was very tired. I slept there so long my legs went numb. I tried to stand and fell which woke and scared my 4 year old niece who was sleeping downstairs (I was upstairs). So embarrassing (but also so funny).

I was driving in the spring and I suddenly got photo phobia- I felt like i needed to pull over right away and go somewhere dark! I looked in the rearview mirror and my face was dark red/purple! My pdoc wrote this up but neither of us thought to get pictures.

I get terrifying realistic nightmares whenever I have medication changes be the changes dose or type.

I had those exact side effects on Clozapine. Luckily I never had to endure the rash though.
