I had to send a piece of mail to my state's tax service and I'm convinced it was all a scam so someone could steal my SSN. Panic mode. Wife says I'm delusional but I am finding that hard to believe. I know I got tricked into sending someone my SSN. I want to put a freeze on my credit but wife says not to. I don't know what to do.

When I am not sure if something is a scam I usually contact the actual place directly (like call up my bank at the phone number I know is their's) and then ask if they send me that message or mail or whatever. Does the address you sent it seem legitimate?

I talked to the state's revenue service a few weeks ago, but I'm worried I mailed the letter to the wrong place. Usually I double check where I'm mailing something to but for some reason this time I didn't. I do have a tracking number though so I'm going to keep an eye on that.

Well that's a good sign you spoke to someone. Do you often worry about sending things to the wrong place or just this time since you didn't double check?

I'm recovering from OCD. In the past I would have definitely double checked, but these days sometimes I forget because my compulsions are weakening. But clearly not as much as I need them to right now.

I can understand, I have OCD and double checking it sounds like something I might worry about. That's great you are working on recovery, though.
