I am so anxious and irritable. I just want my dr appt to get here already so that I know what is going on. I have the mri images but unfortunately have no clue what they say. I have too many things up in the air and my mood is suffering for it. I am not good with patience when it comes to stuff like this. Just my luck they won’t schedule to surgery tomorrow and I remain in limbo. I just can’t take the unknown.

It can be very challenging to have to wait on things like this.

I hope time passes quickly for you.

My dr screwed me. He changed his mind about the knee replacement and just wanted to scope my knee to fix a tiny cartilage tear. He wants me to try this thing called Coolief that I know my insurance won’t cover and it costs between $2000-$4000. I asked what about the pain throughout my knee and the grinding on my knee cap. He said we would just try to manage the pain for at least 5 more years. I told him I can’t do stairs and have trouble getting in and out of my car. I limp and have trouble getting out of chairs. That is to just name a few. He basically said I am too young and over weight so the replacement wouldn’t last long. I am over weight because of all the damn meds I take. How does he expect me to lose weight if I can’t even walk. So now I have to find another dr for a second opinion. I am really pissed off.

I'm so sorry!!! That's horrible. Will your insurance pay for a dietitian?

I am just coming into this discussion late but, oh man, I am so sorry you are having to go through all this. These joint replacement docs all have their own way of doing things, in my experience. Not sure exactly where you are located, but see if you can research the knee replacement guys and gals there and see if you can find the name of one or two that don't force people to wait to an arbitrary age in order to get the procedure done. Sending you positive vibes.

Insurance said they would pay a portion but that still leaves me paying $400+.

Well I had a ketamine treatment today to try and keep my mood up. Not being able to get surgery until the end of February complicates things even more at work. I am tired of being told I am fat I already know this. I emailed my T and told her I am going off of Seroquel and going to cut back on sessions so that she doesn’t have to get another insurance authorization. Of course I didn’t hear back from her. She rarely writes back. So I will just see her Friday and get my lecture from her then.

Your post is heartbreaking. I can say that with all honesty I understand. I have gained over 125lbs from Seroquel (seriously; I was too thin and now way overweight). The stuff causes Metabolic Syndrome and I have not met any doctor, regardless of specialty, who truly understands what Seroquel does to most people.

I have insisted to my pdoc over and over that I do not want to take Seroquel. The weight gain has caused high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high glucose, and relentless, chronic pain - especially in my knees. My GP tells me to exercise and "lose the weight." But I'm in physical therapy for severely painful achilles tendonitis. I would love to exercise. Unfortunately, walking is extremely painful. The stupid woman cannot comprehend the situation.

My dipshite pdoc pays absolutely no attention to my concerns about my health. She's madly, wildly, insanely in love with Seroquel. Her answer to everything I tell her is "Seroquel." I have explained my concerns to her over and over and over. She won't budge.

I finally stopped taking it about a month ago (I was down to a low dose, at my insistence). She keeps demanding that I go back on it. Around and around. The whole issue is destroying my relationship with her; I no longer trust her in any way.

Do you expect the lecture from your T about wanting to cut back on sessions, about going off Seroquel, or both?

Of course, I don't know your situation very well, yet...I do. I empathize.

My guess is that it's important for you to stay in therapy. Do you think it might be? With regard to the Seroquel, however, you certainly have my support if you decide to change meds. Personally, I believe that Seroquel should be taken off the market because I think it's killing people - in one way, by causing serious physical illness. In another way by destroying the patient's spirit.

Please know that you are not alone in your frustration, pain, and sheer exasperation.

I’m really sorry. Exercise is even hard when it’s bone on bone. Get the facts, then change doctors if he won’t do the procedure you want. We have done that many times.

Here and here are reasons to always distrust doctors when it comes to your weight.
