Anyone else became very irritable and have a short fuse when hypomaniac or maniac?
I have said some bad things to important people in my life when I was hypomaniac. I have truly regretted those experience however now I know that it is a indicator of something wrong. __________________ Bipolar 1 and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) Meds: Lithium 1800mg, Vraylar 1.5 mg, Trazodone, 25mg, Ativan 0.5-1 mg PRN |

Yes. Every time. Those who truly love you may understand. Don't be afraid to apologize even if it's much later - it is often appreciated.

When I'm purely hypomanic I tend to be euphoric and giddy and quite sociable. For me, irritability is mostly associated with mixed episodes/dysphoric mania, and to a lesser extent depression (sometimes but not always). When I'm mixed/dysphoric, my irritability is off the charts, and so is my anxiety. In that state I can easily get into arguments or fights, say hurtful things, make rash decisions, etc.

While I do sometimes experience euphoric hypomania it almost inevitably turns into a mixed episode. During mixed episodes I can turn from a patient, caring, generous, and loving woman into an irritable, agitated monster. I have said and done things that I deeply regret, especially if it involves hurting others. Having such a short fuse with racing thoughts is a recipe for disaster.
I always do my best to apologise, and make it up to those I hurt. It’s great that you can now have insight when things are starting to go amiss. That is the time to contact your pdoc and T ( if you have one). Shutting it down at the beginning is easier that further down the hypomanic track cause you will lose that insight as it worsens. __________________ Bipolar 1 with psychotic features PTSD "Phew! Uhhh...YES. I could have written Wander's post. I have lost countless numbers of relationships while in a dysphoric mania. Really wrecked my life.

I can be euphoric to Tasmanian Devil to euphoric and back, several times a day when hypo or manic. It can be bad! But I am really a nice person, in general.

I am still figuring out the mood thing and if/when I get hypomania, but I definitely deal with bad bouts of irritability in particular related to PMDD, but other times, too. Most extreme was when I took Lexapro and when I took Lamictal. It's tough to control when it gets really bad. I just feel like I have to isolate to keep from accidentally ruining relationships or something.

I'm horrible to my wife when manic. I get super paranoid that she is thinking bad thoughts about me and I lash out.

I isolate for the same reason. Not only am I ashamed of some of the stuff I did when manic, but an apology doesn't always work. Some people don't understand, or don't want to, and there's no second chance. __________________ |

It's tough to have to isolate, but yeah I would rather let the storm blow over than act in ways I cannot undo. I kind of think it might be a reason that sometimes people cannot imagine that I have much of a problem because I mostly hide it around people or isolate myself.

Usually I feel euphoric and restless but I experienced irritable hypo/mania once and it nearly ruined a friendship of 10 years. Afterwards me and this friend didn't talk for almost a year, now we are back in contact but things will never be the same.

I recently watched a video of when I was manic.
I was HORRIBLE to everyone. It was very hard to watch. __________________ Bipolar 1, GAD Lithium 900mg, Gabapentin 700mg, Zyprexa 10mg |

I don't know if it has anything to do with being hypomanic. I've never actually been diagnosed as being bipolar although one pdoc I saw said she thought there might be a "bipolar element" to what was going on with me. However I'm irritable & have a short fuse pretty-much all the time... sometimes worse than others.
