Omg.... tonight I had a singing lesson. I haven't had a lesson in about 8 years and I haven't properly sung since then. To my amazement I still have my voice. I still can hit the high notes, have a good range, can still breathe from the diaphragm and guess what I even sung 2 songs accapella omg!!! I've came hone with a pure cheeser on my face. I know I'm blowing my own trumpet here but I'm actually good at something. Can't wait to tell my therapist on Thurs lol

Good for you, Miss Laura. Huge opera fan here. But really, fan of all music, when I am not depressed.

I hope you can keep this up. It is important for us to have things to look forward to. Totally behind you on this!!

That's exciting! I remember you writing about taking lessons. I think that's wonderful!

I like opera, too. My husband especially loves opera. His nephew bought us tickets at the Metropolitan Opera House sometime this year. It will be the Czech opera "Káťa Kabanová" by Leoš Janáček. We used to go to the Met a lot in the past.

One time, years ago, we met the Czech soprano Magdalena Kožená at a concert at Lincoln Center. She was not so well-known then. She was standing alone in the hallway after the concert and only my husband and I approached her to compliment her wonderful performance and ask her questions. She is now a big star and married to the conductor Sir Simon Rattle. She's a very pleasant lovely lady with an amazing voice.

That's great!

I found a recording of me singing 10 years ago. My voice has gone bad since then. I lost my high range. :-( I still sing in the shower and the car but my range is limited. My church choir director said it was my age but i know from having an internal scope of my vocal cords that one of them is paralyzed. I can still sing its just its very hard to near impossible to use my head voice.

Miss Laura that is so awesome! I'm kind of a link nerd here so please excuse my link. But singing is so good for a person! In so many ways! Beyond the pure fulfillment and enjoyment factor. It has healing benefits too. Singing Health Benefits: 11 Surprising Reasons It's Good for You

Congrats on returning to a passion of yours! Do you think you'll work on practicing a piece for a recital at some point? How fun would that be!

It's purely for fun if I'm honest but I'm to think of music I would really love to get my teeth into. I'm at the moment just like I'll sing anything bar Scottish music as it's mostly love songs or songs about birds lol did it done it got the tshirt lol. Spent 3 years singing them at high school. I did sing a Scottish song to her last night it's called Wee Hughie and it's about a boy going to school for the 1st time and he's the youngest of his siblings to go. She loved it. I also sang a Tracy Chapman song She's Got Her Ticket. Love that song and it's all pitchy and I nailed it. She has suggested a song to start off with but it's a Scottish song. It's a poem turned into a song by Robert Burns Ae Fond Kiss. I'm familiar with it but I'm not confident to sing it without words lol. She says my voice would really suit it. I'm negative excited
