When something like this happens to me, I get in bed and watch a movie or Netflix or something. That doesn't stop the thoughts, but it takes me away from them for seconds at a time, which over time does help. Last resort, I call the after-hours number at my pdoc's, or the psych ER if I start feeling self-destructive.

I hope your evening will get better and you'll feel less stressed. Has your pdoc prescribed any PRN Haldol? My pdoc has prescribed PRN Haldol on top of my normal Haldol- and the dose is higher than the regular one- if I feel things are getting out of control with the thoughts.

I am so sorry you are dealing with these thoughts, HALLIEBETH. I hope your evening is calmer and that your thoughts are more peaceful soon.

Halliebeth, I read your posts but I rarely respond. I'd like to tell you a story.

My sister was diagnosed with early onset schizophrenia at the age of 11. Her delusions and hallucinations centered around religion, including demons and Satan. One night she went into a psychotic rage and put several family members, including me, in the hospital with physical injuries. She was committed to a therapeutic psychiatric hospital for children where she was educated and confined till she was 18 years old. Then she was transferred to a state hospital where she spent most of her adult life. When the state hospital closed down her unit she was placed in a permanent group home. She will live her entire life in that group home with little to no freedom. My sister has never been able to choose her food, what she wears, who she sees, what kind of treatment she gets, where she lives, or even what recreational activities she gets to participate in. She has a permanent guardian who oversees all aspects of her care and her finances. She has never been able to make a singe decision for herself since she was 11.

I tell you this piece of my history because delusions about demons and Satan are very serious. I wish you well with your treatment and I hope you have success.

Halliebeth, this is a bump in the road not what things will be like forever. Yes there will be bumps again but the goal is for those bumps to be smaller and longer apart over time.

That seems reasonable. What stop-gap measures has he given you between today and next week?
