One more thought... If you can eat something with a bit of sweetness that is filling you can get more out of the experience. For example, I make these about once a month. I do an entire box at a time and I make waffles. My kids like them a bit sweeter so I usually add 2Tbsp of powdered sugar to the mix. I also add walnuts and a couple of eggs for more protein and the eggs help the consistency of the waffles. You can use coconut oil.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Kodiak-Ca...8-Oz/247590164

At any rate, these are choclately, a bit sweet amd very filling. They offer the carbs and protein you need for a bike ride. If you want to keep the sugar even lower you can just eat them with a few berries and some cool whip.

They freeze well once they cool and heat up great in a toaster oven.

They are a tad pricey as far as mixes go, but they offer a lot more benefit than standard waffle mix I eat them for a dessert when I'm feeling like a bottomless pit.

Thanks, fern. I think I tried the buttrmilk ones once but they were kind of expensive. I just make my own now.

But the chocolate ones, they sound good. I will give them a go. Thanks!!

Maybe try eating more small meals throughout the day, and including some protein and maybe something a little sweet like fruit or trail mix that has a little chocolate. This might not be the case for you, but for me if I let my blood sugar go up and down or get too hungry I start craving sweets. I also find staying hydrated helps. Practicing mindfulness around eating might help, too. You could make sure you are paying attention to when you are going to eat something (sweet or not), and sit down and make a little event of it. For example, you could grab some tea or coffee with something sweet, take out just a piece and put back the rest, and really sit down and enjoy it and pay attention to what you are eating. If you slow down like this you might be less likely to eat as much of it.

These cravings are not helped with psych meds. I often wish I could eat like that and not suffer from some stomach ailment soon after. I can only eat in small portions and I am not happy about it.

bpcyclist, I just thought I'd share that this morning I had my own chocolate binge, of sorts. Luckily it was a lowered fat and low sugar/carb treat, but it was still indulgent-like (chocolate raspberry cheesecake). Anyway, it's gone. I'm sure my husband will ask about it. I'll have to tell him the truth. "It was eaten by snakes!"

The one wise thing I did in regards to that mentioned chocolate raspberry cheesecake was to halve the recipe and make it in a much smaller springform pan. Actually, I deliberately treated myself to a 6-inch springform pan knowing the possibility that I would splurge on such stuff.

I am so lucky I don't have a springform right now (ex stole it). I would be in big trouble...

Snakes, huh? I think I am going to have to appropriate that one!

Dark chocolate Hershey bars can also satisfy some sweet cravings. Take one or a few squares at a time. Don’t buy in bulk, lol. Dark chocolate has some great nutrients. Fruit would be great for you since you exercise. I also use snack bars with dark choc, nuts and some sugar content.
Edwards brand makes 2 serving boxes of choc pie. I use those to avoid the dreaded choc pie abyss! Hugs!

For dieters w no time to cook: NissinHot & Spicy ramen
I have been surprised by this: I heard years ago that some cultures used hot peppers or hot sauce to make them feel full. I have been using this brand of ramen noodles for lunch. They are bigger than cup o noodles and the great thing is that for $1 each w separate packets for the flavoring and hot sauce, you can make it to your taste. It really kills my appetite that used to rage all afternoon. I use salad kits in the very hot weather we get here.
At my age, with my family usually living to their high 90s, I dont think any preservatives in the flavoring will hurt me-a tiny packet.

I started to think about balance. I binge eat and stress eat and now in a less active lifestyle my weight has been creeping up and up. I have to look at all of it, amt of exercise vs food intake as the seasons change, and what is frustrating me so I try to make myself happy or calmer with food. Plenty of answers for those. Can I do what i have to do in this big period of transition to get my needs met more effectively ? The challenge:goal setting, prioritizing, problem solving.
I’ve had some successes lately, must press on!

I've been thinking about bpcyclist and hoping he's OK.

luvyrself, sounds good. I made chocolate zucchini muffins with chocolate chips about 2 weeks back, and they were good. Didn't use cabbage in them, though. What do you do with the cabbage? Shred it finely, like the zucchini? Anyway, I froze most of them. They defrost beautifully.
