My first thought (and no need to reply) is define ''not good at''
I think the answer would be yes, since I don't know many who are ''good at everything'' the first time they try it. A CBT technique someone told me about recently (which I would guess most who have been ''in treatment'' would have heard, or something similar, is to list ''pleasure'' and ''mastery'' for each activity...If there is zero pleasure and 1 mastery it may not be an activity we want more of I just asked Papa bear his opinion on this post (my post) and he said he didn't understand it. He is actually a very bright bear. (when he's not half asleep anyway) __________________ Last edited by Fuzzybear; Feb 24, 2020 at 04:08 PM.. |

I think it depends on what you’re talking about specifically. I like the CBT technique shared by Fuzzybear. I really get pleasure from scrapbooking and painting but I have no talent. It makes me happy, I paint my pets and hang them in the bathroom. People have actually laughed when they’re in there but it still brings me pleasure.
I have been told that I am a terrific teacher from my former employees, employers and PTA but I get negative pleasure as a teacher so I don’t do it. It drives me to mania. Wasted college degree... Good luck! |

I just want to add that I get a ton of pleasure from things I may, in fact, suck at. I am very good with lasers, but would be delighted to never see one again.

What a good question, 2013.
This has been a HUGE issue for me, since the things I really love and want to do, I have zero talent for. In addition, my biological father didn't help by constantly stressing that unless you had a genius for something and could pick it up and excel the first time you tried it, you might as well give up as there was really no point in trying. At this point I've made the decision to keep trying to do the things that really sing to me, with the idea that those are the things i'm interested in, and not everyone can be at the top of the heap. __________________ |

If you enjoy doing the thing, it's definitely worth doing, regardless of your official talent. I love singing, but I'm sure there might be plenty of dogs that would howl if they heard me. It's OK. It's fun and I have a great time singing my heart out. I like my plants, but I don't have a particular green thumb, but I keep trying. I am improving.
I'm not particularly good at photography, but I do enjoy snapping photos of nature and my cooking masterpieces. When I post/submit recipes to websites/contest, I know my recipes are good, but my photos of the end product don't compare to others' photos. I never thought I could write good poetry, but over the last few years I've tried harder. Many of them entertain me. I'm my biggest fan. |

It's the only way to *get* good at something. I have a lot of artistic talent, but I've been honing it since childhood. I have always believed that people have more talent than they give themselves credit for. It's the not trying that gets in their way.
The Zone is the greatest place to be. I believe you can get there regardless of talent level. Just get lost in it. It's about process, not results. __________________ ********* Mr. Robot Makes me sick to the heart, Oh I feel so tired. And the way the rain comes down hard, that's how I feel inside. --The Cure
