Does anyone have any links or strategies for thriving as an HSP?

I think I am an HSP and maybe an empath?

There is a lot that can be said, but I think one of the trickiest things to do and one of the most important skills to learn is how to separate your energy from someone else's. When you are sensitive the energy of others will flow through you. If you don't realize what is happening you can be easy to become entangled with it and take it on as your own. This effect can make it difficult to determine how you truly feel in the moment and can lead you to act in ways you wouldn't want to otherwise.

If you find yourself suddenly emotional or tangled up in thoughts that are new, just stop and ask yourself 'are these thoughts/feelings my own?' Usually you can know of you give yourself a moment to breathe and think it over. If you're unsure you can excuse yourself and see if the feelings persist when you're alone.

There are times when adopting the feelings of someone else can be beneficial. Say for example you're down and someone else is in a bright place. Just sitting with them can lift you and your energy can entrain with theirs. If you're anxious, seeking out someone calm can help. Try though to get on their vibe and then recreate it for yourself. Otherwise you'll kinda be like a vampire. Speaking of, when you know someone is oppositely polarized and you spend time with them and feel drained, they are literally draining your energy. Don't let that go on perpetually.

Just a few basics, but working with that and being conscious in the moment of how your energy is blending with someone else's can open up a lot of doors.

If you can truly read energy you will start to notice a major disconnect between the masks people wear, the words they use and the energy they put out. There is great value in connecting with them and letting them feel that they can drop the act and be real with you. You can simply think thoughts like 'its ok, you can trust me' to convey that message. Sometimes it works. When it doesn't it can be a kindness to meet people where they are and politely ignore what is blatantly obvious to you. Sometimes the masks people wear are easily shed. Sometimes the masks are the glue holding them together. If you can see the truth anyway, you can navigate accordingly. You don't have to strip them bare to find a good outcome. This type of gift can easily be used to manipulate others. Use it wisely and with great compassion and love.

There are more advanced things you can do like reflecting, generating, shielding, etc. but this is a good start.

Great Topic, Fuzzy!

Someone I always recommend when this topic comes up for learning:

Judith Orloff MD | Empath Support, Intuition, Emotions & Energy Healing

There is a lot of interesting info. on her site. Her blog is loaded with info.

Currently, there are several fascinating topics, one being: 7 Strategies for Empaths to Heal Trauma and PTSD.

Thanks, Fuzzy!

One of the first people I know of to write about Highly Sensitive People is Elaine Aron, PhD. I have one of her earlier books myself, but by now I imagine she has put out many more.
