"Tomorrow" by U2. It's about the death of Bono's mother.

Big U2 fan here. Actually, I found a number of their songs from the late 1980s to be appealing as as teenager experiencing strife.

Yeah, sorry to go off-topic, but this has to be said. Last Saturday I listened to 11 hours of U2. It obviously didn't solve anything, but it did make me feel a bit better.

OK, back to your regularly planned thread.

Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler always gets me. These are two of my favorites:

YouTube
YouTube

Some of the earlier stuff by Radiohead is pretty sad, too, like "Creep" and "I Can't."

If you get past the fact that the music sounds more angry than sad, I find a lot of The Offspring's lyrics (especially their earlier stuff) to be quite sad and oddly reminiscent of the way I often feel about my bipolar. The band used to be called Manic Subsidal, I've often wondered about that... But maybe that's just me projecting.

Buckethead also has some beautiful (instrumental) stuff like Soothsayer, if you're into that sort of thing.

"Seasons in the Sun" has to be the most horribly tragic and sad song ever written.

A song that comes to mind is "Beth" by Kiss.
