It sounds like you've never experienced a wildfire. Normally, the scent of smoke can be pleasant. But not this. It reeks, I can see it inside of my apartment, ash is falling, and it hurts to breathe. This smoke is the stink of foliage burning, animals burning, homes, cars, and other structures burning. It's literally toxic smoke, but there's no way to escape it at this time. There is nothing pleasant about this smoke.

Beth, is there support there for folks who must leave? Do you need to leave?

Hugs.

Thank you for asking, bpc. No- thankfully, thankfully I am in a town 25 miles from the closest town under mandatory evacuation. So I'm that far from the actual fire. We're just choking on smoke here. And there's a really weird wind that the fires create...kind-of cyclic blasts of wind. In 2018 we could see fire just 10 miles from the edge of town. Horrifying. Hopefully, that won't happen this time.

All the loss of natural life is just so heartbreaking.

I'm so sorry! I'm in Washington state and we had a bad fire here a couple years ago. It wasn't as bad as what it sounds like you're experiencing, but I got horrible headaches from the smoke. I wish there was a way to just stop it.

Thank you so much. Yes...headaches, terrible dry and burning eyes, mouth, nose, throat. People are being evacuated from huge wildfires to places where the fire danger is lower, but still all smoky.

2 of my 5 cats threw up quite a bit this morning; I'm thinking they're probably reacting to the smoke.

I remember when Washington had that wildfire, yes

Beth. I'm so sorry you're suffering so bad. And your poor cats! I wish the west coast didn't have these problems...

Thank you so much for your kindness, Cool. Something has happened in recent years; we never used to have such firestorms. Sure, the random wildfire here or there every late summer - but not like this. Not these massively destructive raging things. And we're in drought mode, year after year after year.

This is such a gorgeous state. It's all so sad.

I fell asleep with my headphones on and then Killshot by Eminem woke me up. I really like Eminem but pretty much every other word in that it song is the F word and it’s hard to sleep through it. I got back to sleep but then I woke up again for who knows why about an hour ago. I didn’t sleep too well last night so it sucks that’s it’s happening again tonight and with less then 50% battery too. I only got about 2 hours of sleep too overall.
