I was hypo for quite a while. All the classic symptoms - feeling wired / irritable / lack of sleep / difficulty concentrating.

All of the above was caused by stress of work.

I read an article that completely triggered and then angered me and I swear I went from hypo to manic faster than you can turn off a light switch. I didn't know it could happen that fast.

I lost all touch with reality.

I'm happy to say I'm just hypo now. I just wish I had more of the haha feeling and less of the grrrr now I'm irritated feeling.

There are a bunch of things, but one that comes to mind is jetlag. I travel for work sometimes to a timezone that's almost a complete reversal compared to my regular day-night rhythm. It's... not good for my stability.

I get triggered by balls

I have no idea why, but if I am holding a bouncy ball, or see one, I'm going to be manic

to this day I still get triggered by balls

Positive events in my life. Getting something I really wanted. Focusing excessively on future plans when I expect them to go well, as opposed to poorly.

Lack of sleep.

Abuse of power. Abuse of people. Spiritual depth. Writing. Advanced mathematics. Complicated work projects. Music.

All of these tend to contribute to destabilization for me.

Getting fired up about causes can stimulate me too.

Yes, getting overly intense about causes. That will really set off my mania. Sometimes great art or music. Excitement about something I'm creating. But it's hard for me to tell whether the trigger comes first, or the mania is already simmering and gets set off.
I think it's the latter.

Oh, and weather. Thunderstorms especially multiple days in a row will really set off some euphoric mania for me.

Can honestly say I have not ever heard that one. Absolutely fascinating.

Work stress can be a trigger for both hypomania and depression for me (or mixed). I always feel like I don't have much control over that, so to try to balance it out by keeping a consistent routine in the evenings and going to bed at the same time every day.

So on another thread we're discussing the comorbidity of migraines and BD. I love the rain, but inevitably get a migraine just as the storm begins.

Lack of sleep. This is what happened with my most recent episode. Other times, the lack of sleep is BECAUSE I'm going into an episode. In any case, I have a very strict sleep schedule and two meds for sleep because it's such a huge trigger for me. I take my meds by a certain time (usually) and then I know pretty much when I'll be falling asleep. I give myself a lot of sleep.

I used to work as a manager in my field and that produced way too much stress. I think I had 4 or so episodes during that time and I was, otherwise, just miserable.

I have since left that job and moved. I made the decision, 4 years ago, to only work part-time (and not as a manager). It obviously has financial implications for me, but it has helped a great deal with my stability.

Depovera birth control shot, SSRI's, big changes in meds.
This last hospitalization I was manic or psychotic most of the month of changes. hubby said I came home too soon.
Then went to an out patient IOP for 5 weeks and signed off staying that I needed to get back to work.

Stress and ADs

Luckily my BP is more on the random side of the spectrum, so I don't practice much avoidance.
