There is a book titled final analysis (a book on psychoanalysis... I also have ''psychotherapy and its discontents''

I wonder whether to give ''analysis'' one final go.

with a T irl the idea is horrifying to me due to previous experiences

HUgs to you, I think it would be important to verbalize your fears of abuse by other Therapists right off at the beginning meeting.

I believe that bizi has a very good point. Working through a terrible therapy/therapist experience might just be of value for you.
