The nurse that gives me my injection said everyone on antipsychotics should have an AIMS test once a year. I’ve been on APs for about 6 or 7 years now and never heard of such a thing. It tests for things like tardive dyskinesia and dystonia.
Nurse tested me and said there were some little things like tremory hands but nothing to worry about. For those of you who are on APs, have you ever had such a test? __________________ If any chord that I could strum Make me feel less like a man I'd slam my fingers in the doorway And shatter all the bones So I could never strum again |

I have not had the entire AIMS test ever, that I recall. Especially not during this time when we're doing telehealth. My pdoc has asked me to do a few of the AIMS procedures, though. Hold out my hands, touch the tip of my nose several times with my finger, stick out my tongue.

I had it done once or twice when I was having dystonia from a combination of APs. I think she did it once soon after I stopped one AP and then a month later to be sure it was ok.

What type of test is this? I’ve never even heard of it nor has it been suggested I have one. Yikes.

Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) testing needs to be done at least once a year if you're on antipsychotics. As a nurse I've given them many times to my elderly patients on APs, and I just had one done myself by my new pdoc. I have a diagnosis of tardive dyskinesia which manifests as tremors in my hands and constantly tapping feet. So far it's manageable and I'm not on any medication for it. But it is annoying!
