Every night I sit on my porch and look at the stars and the moon, unless it's too cold or wet (I live in New England). In a few days it will be a full moon, and that always kicks in hypomania or mania. My therapist, who is a wise, empathetic woman, once asked me if the full moon affects me and I said yes. Now, she is not your typical therapist. She was the head emergency room therapist at Mass General Hospital for 10 years. For those of you who don't know, MGH is the largest, most prestigious hospital in Boston. She has seen it all. Anyway, when I said yes she said, with all warpath, kindness and respect, "I can tell. In the emergency ward at MGH the full moon brought out all of the crazies. You are not alone, so don't think your are." Again, she has deep empathy, so don't let the term 'crazies' put you off. She has a keen sense of humor and self deprecation. She was encompassing everyone who has MI. All of that said, does the full moon affect anyone else?

When I worked in a psychiatric facility the full moon caused so much chaos that we highlighted it on all the calendars.

I don't think it affects me personally but I've never tracked it to be sure.

I also love to watch the night sky. Moon phases...logically, moon phases have a strong effect upon people, and upon the earth and animals, too. That the moon pulls the ocean tide is well known; I've seen it happen many times. Every mental health worker I've ever questioned about the moon has told me that the full moon has an effect upon people. Also there tends to be more violence during the full moon.

The moon is a powerful force.

I heard that tonight the full moon will be in eclipse overnight. It will be shortly before midnight here (PST). A full Beaver moon in Gemini and an eclipse. That's some wild stuff!

I did not see the eclipse - I fell asleep at 6:30pm! But I saw the almost full moon the night before. Beautiful.

I never really paid attention to my moods in relation to the full moon. But I used to notice my cats would sometimes get very crazy whenever there was a full moon. They would be flying all around the house like maniacs. lol They always were crazy but even more so during full moons.

I am glad to read this thread just now, as it has been on my mind. My grief actually follows moon cycles, and I write about grieving like the moon waxes and wanes, and have just posted a thread about this. I also feel there is a stigma around actually following our moon, so keep a bit quiet about it. I am glad @wolftrap that you shared your therapists words, she sounds like a very kind and very wise woman.
We are animals, and I believe we are all too determined to (or coerced into) denying our nature. I am not going to strip off and run into the woods just yet, haha...but I do believe that getting in touch with my nature and the natural world is so important for my own health. I'm sure it is important for health, and seems a bit too hard to do sometimes.

It's true! My cats react to the full moon, too.

KBMK - thanks for sharing! I too feel that being connected to the natural world is good for our health. At least, I have found that to be so. I understand it depends upon where we live and the environment in which we live that circumscribes our access to nature. As you say, it can be difficult to do. I am fortunate that I can watch the sun rise and in the evening the path of the moon and stars. It is incredibly grounding. Knowing when the full moon will happen (ie. two days ago?) helps me to track my moods. These past two days I have been on edge, and I expected it to be so...ah, so full disclosure, that means my drinking has increased...

It affected me, I over spent. Now trying to return a few things to hopefully not overdraft my account.

Every last one of those colors is mesmerizing, but especially that purple! but I think the one I like the most is in the outer ring, (start due south, go right to the bright light bluish hued one)! I could look at that for days. Breathtaking!

To be honest I really haven’t noticed but now I’m kind of curious if I have a manic state lines up at all with the moon!
