Default Just found out I have BDD

I just realized I have BDD. After thinking about surgery, cosmetic laser procedures, teeth whitening, etc all in one day I felt so overwhelmed. I remembered the term BDD and googled it. I have pretty much every symptom listed on all the websites.

I realize that my old psychiatrist was medicating me for it too. He had me on Lexapro and wanted to put me on Zoloft (the two main meds for treating BDD). I stopped seeing him very quickly though after I got frustrated with the whole situation.

In his notes which my therapist would read to me, he would talk about me having eating disorder tendencies and trying to get me to take medication (as I wasn't willing to take the Zoloft because it has bad withdrawals, plus I very quickly became treatment resistant and plain out refused meds).

So I got upset and ditched him. I feel so bad for treating him the way I did. He was just trying to do his job and I painted him as incompetent for it. Looking back on it he was actually quite intelligent and saw something in me that I couldn't even realize.

Reading about BDD I see that it's considered a severe illness and that people usually have to take high dosages of medications and stay in treatment even if they improved. Is this true?

I hate the idea of being stuck on meds and I can't get along with any mental health professionals.

Honestly, even knowing that I do have this disorder, I still want to go through with all my procedures I had in mind. However, I suppose that's a symptom.

What do I do now that I'm aware I have this disorder? I haven't seen a therapist in a while and when I was seeing mental health professionals, I fired 4 out of 5 of them cause I'm so hard to deal with.

I don't really know much about this. But I noticed no one had replied to your post. So I thought I would. Here are links to 4 articles, from PC's archives, that talk about treatment options for BDD:
